Hey Everyone, Check this out.
![]()
In an optimistic mood today so im thinking that this teaser may be for the reveal of the Razer Blade R2 / Razer Blade Pro R2.
Nvidia 800 series NDA is up on the 12th, so im guessing it will have an 860 (maxwell) or something around there with a high res display due to the "Seeing is Believing" text...
Hopefully this turns out to be somewhat true, otherwise the GS60 is looking nicer and nicer as time goes by.
Then again i might just be reading into this. Thoughts?

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 800M series to be revealed at CeBIT | VideoCardz.com
It seems like either the Blade or the Blade Pro will get a 870m. -
Sounds like it is going to be an intriguing couple of days. A Razer Blade w 870m and a higher quality screen (not looking for a higher res) might be my next buy. I had pretty much decided on the clevo w230ss though I wasn't too pleased with the 1920 x 1080 res for gaming. Looks like this is going to be a great year of laptop gaming.
-
This might turn into a tough choice. If the w230ss is going to have the onboard 860m w a 1920 by 1080 screen it'll still be bottled by a 128 bit bus but it'll only use around 45w of power while the Razer blade v2 will have the 870 w 192 bit bus but use 75w of power. I'm assuming they will put a 1920 x 1080 screen on the v2 Razer unless they go completely overboard.
-
The GPU in both the Blade and Blade Pro are soldered to the mobo correct? If that's how they are going to stay wouldn't the 860M be max they could go?
-
Come on high quality screen for the Razer 14!!!

If this happens then I'm definitely picking up a blade 14. I wanted one this gen but stayed away because of the panel. -
where did you find this teaser i cant find it anywehere
-
It was posted on Razer's Facebook page yesterday. Don't think they've posted anything relating to this announcement since.Lzealot likes this.
-
very impressive to have an 870m inside. guessing thats for both the blade 14 and the blade pro. betting its also a high res screen to boot as well. making me rethink my aorus x7 purchase a little. though still think the 870m won't quite outscore the 2x765ms, if its a 30 percent increase from a 770m. battery life would be a big improvement though.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
if its 30% from a 770m it would fall around the 780m performance bracket... meaning if that is true I want one badly
-
wondering if its got 4gb ram though
-
welp, we will find out everything in about an hour and a half... fingers crossed for something awesome!
-
Synapse 2.0 just got a new update. The update is for High DPI screen support. I am betting new high rez screen is on the way.
-
New display confirmed on the Razer Blade 14. 3200 by 1800. GTX 870M GPU. This will play games like a turd at that high rez. Still has only 8 Gigs of Ram.
Razer Blade Pro gets only a ram boost to 16 Gig and gets the GTX 860M. So minor performance boost for the RBP.
Does this seem a little backwards to anyone else? -

Ummm, why does the Blade Pro have an 860M while the Blade 14 has a 870M? Am I missing something?
-
Looks like I'm buying a blade 14 now..
-
The display has multitouch support as well, damn i want that baby...
-
The blade pro officially sucks now......860M ...why couldnt they just put the same 870M .......Can someone shed some more light on the blade 14 resolution ? Also.......how are we supposed to game at that resolution
Also does anyone know where i can find the razer education discount on blades link ? I swear i saw it yesterday -
yeah, the blade pro is not the 17" laptop choice for gamers, but the Blade 14 definitely is! The 3dmark score of around 6800 still below the new Aorus X7 at 7800 but still. My question is do i want a 17' laptop with sli and 4gb ram with 1TB SSD and 1TB HDD as thin as the Razer Blade Pro, or do I want the 14" Blade with better battery life, screen resolution (albeit smaller), and a single (3GB RAM) 870M?
tough call. -
Once i sell my Alienware, this what i would be getting. BEen travelling a lot lately and might need to make the switch, now that i have a worthy successor
Initial Review: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2107...pro-laptops-still-slim-more-supercharged.html -
If you are going to play alot of games its not a tough call. You would never be able to play games at native rez on the new Blade 14 and we know it will look terrible playing with the rez dialed down. Sort of defeats the purpose really. A 1920 by 1080 screen on the Blade 14 would have been perfect.
-
I disagree....with the current setup not only can you use this for games but for photography and video as well. Its the same retina macbook pro debate all over again
-
I agree with you. However, if your primary reason for getting it is gaming then the X7 is the better choice. You will not be able to play anything well at the native rez. You will have to dial it back a ton and running an LCD laptop screen so far away from its native rez will look like total crap. It always does.
-
My friend tried running games on 1440x900 on his rMBP, downscaling by 1/2 each way exactly, and it looked pretty bad compared to full ress. He would rather take the fps hit than play downscaled. :| I think I'll stick with my old Blade for now. Now for a wait for the perfect 3rd gen Blade... xD
-
i wouldve been more pumped about a 1080p 14' ips panel. still want to see this displey for myself though.
-
I am sure the display is stunning. Just not the right choice for a company making products for gamers by gamers. I understand that they are now marketing their laptops to professionals in multiple fields to sell more product but the new screen resolution is not the right choice for gamers. I love Razer products and have 5 blades in my house but they dropped the ball with the new Blade 14 in regards to playing games. That being said I will probably still buy one the next time they offer the 20% discount as I just can't seem to stop buying the newest Blade's. Its a terrible addiction.
-
also pleased with the price, $2199 is not bad for all that goodness. wondering if it still has dual msata slots. probably
-
And here i am mustering the courage to see if i can buy my first blade...and also give up on my much loved Alienware m18x r2 for that
Also when do they offer a 20% discount?
-
Ordered! 512GB with priority shipping. Hopefully I get it the 8th so I can take it to PAX East.
-
Congrats !!! Will look forward to first pics and impressions from you
-
Every now and then they will offer a 20% discount to college students and faculty. They just had one that lasted for 2 weeks so I picked up a Blade 14 and RBP. I have 5 children so I just hand down the laptops as I purchase new ones for me and my wife. We now have 2 first gen Blade 17's, 1 second gen Blade 17, 1 RBP and one 1 Blade 14. Yes I love these things that much. I also just purchased an X7 but was boxed right back up and sent back to New Egg as it had massive build quality issues. Its an addiction, I know.
-
HTML:I have admit I'm kinda disapointed. The 870m is just a rebadged keplar chip with a 10 0verclock. I doubt there will be any power savings. Trying to drive that screen for games will suck. Yes you can drop it down to 1600x900 but the screen still has to drive the same number of pixels so the screen refresh lag has got to be horrid. I'm gonna hold off till they review it but i have a feeling they screwed this up in the other direction. I wonder if i can buy a used last gen and swap mb to put this vid card in.
-
I was looking for that 20% for college students...maybe the removed it for the new lauch ...well i guess i will hold up till that comes back ...makes the deal much more affordable
Pretty sure you wont be able to replace the GPU. In that form factor it has to be soldered. Could be wrong though -
Also forgot to mention that since the new screen is a capacitve touch screen its going to be glossy.
-
Agreed. They went too far the other direction this time. Resolution is way too high for that video card plus its now glossy. Ugh! Will definitely need to see reviews before I'd ever consider it
-
The early hands on reviews are saying the screen is fantastic. Can't wait to read what the owners here think when they get it.
-
Fudge, the wife now wants the new Blade 14 because it has a touch screen. I never thought a touchscreen would be a reason to buy a Razer Blade.
-
Well, that is my biggest issue with the current blade, love the laptop, decent little portable gamer, but for everything else the screen is kind of mediocre. Size and weight means it actually comes with me places, which I couldn't say for the m17x r4 that I had before.
I went ahead and ordered the new one, think that I will be pleased with it, as it seems to address the main issue that I had with the other. If the screen lags that will be one thing, but honestly on laptops I don't usually play twitch games as I prefer the 120hz screen on my desktop and just get frustrated. Will let you guys know when it gets here. -
Why do you think they had the 20% sale in the first place? Gotta offload any remaining stock of the old RB.
-
Unfortunately it seems as though the 10% college discount is gone as the link just goes to the homepage now. Hopefully its just a glitch.
-
I guess it`ll be backup in a month or two. Enough time for me to sell my M18x r2
-
I ordered the old style razer blade yesterday after I saw the price dropped to $1800 for the 256gb version. Got it in the mail a couple hours before the announcement and I have to say I'm glad I went with this one. I don't think the 870M is going to outperform the 765M by that much on the new screen. Will have to run at half resolution on the new screen to get better performance.
Very pleased with the performance on the 2013 blade 14. I'm currently thinking I'll stick with it instead of paying $600 more on the new one. I'll be watching for the blade 14 r3 which will probably run the same new screen but on an even better gpu much more capable of pushing that resolution. Though I guess I'll hold out final judgment until I see benchmarks...I have 45 days to return it if it turns out the new one is actually better. -
Yes! Now that's the screen I was looking for! If anybody has an email address for one of the participating schools and could get a 10% coupon from this website for me I'd greatly appreciate it! Otherwise, I'll be ordering this thing ASAP.
-
I am thinking of either going for the new one or waiting for a used blade 14.....which i am thinking will go further down in price...considering the price drop for the new ones
-
Yeah I considered going used. But then I would have had to pay up front instead of paying over 18 months with no interest.
I must say though I'm glad I went ahead and bought the blade. I was using an Asus G75VW and it was...enormous. I only bought it because best buy managed to sell it to me for less than I later resold it on ebay for (yay promotions on clearance items). I figured I'd try it out and couldn't go wrong for the price. But yeah it was way too big. I can't imagine using an M18X like you have.
-
Like the refresh however the lack of being able to go to 16GB is a deal breaker for me as I would use the laptop for both games and work (software development).
-
18 months..no interest...that sounds like Bestbuy...problem being i already have way too much on my bestbuy account including my PS4
Let me know how you like it. Especially with the newer games...and does the low res screen bother you ? -
Does anyone else feel like a $400 hike in price is out of line? I mean I am sure the new display is a good bit more expensive but still. My wife is really bugging me to order the new one because she just has to have the touchscreen. She doesn't give a hoot about the resolution just the touchscreen. She does use Windows 8.1 with the new UI so I suppose it might be more functional for her. I might have a very lightly used Blade 14 R1 for sale.
-
Yeah it's best buy.
So far I've only loaded Dragon Age: Origins (and some benchmark software) since that's what I've been playing recently on my desktop. I'll load something more recent on there to try it out...though really I'm not going to be able to tell you more than the reviews with benchmarks out there on the internet will; it handles newer games like a champ because it's a 765M pushing only 1600x900.
See here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7119/razer-blade-14inch-gaming-notebook-review/4 and scroll down to the middle of that page to see the 1600x900 benchmarks. Note they're comparing the razer to much more substantial gaming laptops so don't expect it to top the charts (though it does look pretty high on the starcraft charts - probably due to the cpu); just note that the FPS is well within the playable range with decent to good settings. Of course it won't match your dual 680Ms but it gets close enough in a much slimmer, sleeker form factor compared to an 18" monster.
Really, when it comes down to it, it is going to depend on what your purpose is for the laptop. I had a giant monster gaming laptop of doom and I hated it because I bring my laptop to work, to LAN parties, to play table-top RPGs, and to other various places. I want a laptop that isn't going to just sit on a desk for gaming but just happens to give me the option to uproot my system and move it without lugging a desktop somewhere. I want it to actually be a portable computer that I can also use to play games, even if I can't max out the AA. If I'm playing something where I just need that visual fix, I'll play it on my dual-GTX 780 desktop.
The lower res screen doesn't bother me at all. I'm used to running 1080p on a 27" screen. This is 1600x900 on a 14" screen so the pixels per inch are much higher. Also, it may just be me, but I like the TN panel in this thing just fine. It's bright enough and looks great from all the viewing angles I actually use. I don't really see what all the fuss regarding the screen is all about. There are a lot of numbers on the internet that say this panel isn't great but I can't really tell much difference between this and my 27" 1080p samsung (other than the fact that this is matte whereas my samsung is glossy and has awful glare when the blinds are up on the window behind me). I guess I'm sort of the kind of person Razer chose this panel for though: I care much less about the color accuracy, viewing angles, and other "technical" display quality aspects and care more about response time and whether games look awesome on the screen (which they do).
