For just a touchscreen? Yes, out of line. For a QHD+ touchscreen? Probably not. I think they would have been better off going to a 1600x900 or 1080p touchscreen (if there is such a panel available) to keep the price reasonable and keep the focus on gaming.

Good update but why can't they make it right with a simple high quality IPS 1080p panel and a gtx 860 Maxwell.

1080p IPS panel and GTX 860 Maxwell or 3200x1800 and Rebadge Kepler GTX 870m. You see what's wrong here?

We need perfect balance but this is better than the 1st gen Razer 14 with that craptastic screen and coil whine issue.

Can't seem to get the code as my school is not affiliated....

I am interested in getting it with the new screen... The screen was my only issue with buying a razor blade... I had a zenbook infinity on order but seems like this is the best bet now!

Just saw the news on the new 2014 razor blade. 3200x1800 touch screen looks awesome! (I have the Yoga 2 Pro now, which has 1800p). I am thinking about selling the Yoga 2 Pro (again, the Y2P's screen is AWESOME) and get the new razor blade when it's out. I am a resolution :D I seriously can't stand anything below 1080p, even on a 13 inch screen. It bothers me a lot.

My question is, will we be able to put a second SSD into the new razor blade? If not, are we able to upgrade the stock SSD with a normal 2.5 SSD?

Since the new razor blade is not out yet, I realize it might be impossible to say for certain now.

But any educated guess is welcomed!

This is the only thing holding me from preordering it. Non-upgradable SSD is a deal breaker for me :(

    Thanks!

Well, the 2013 blade isn't a 2.5" either. It's mSATA. It has 2 slots, only one of which is filled when you buy it. I'd guess the new blade is the same but can't confirm that.

    Thanks Alatar!

I didn't know that the old razor has 2 slots. Hopefully the new one does too :D

I did know about it until today, but then i never looked at the old blade uptil a few days ago.....and confirming what Alatar said ....the old one has 2 slots and i am sure they will keep doing that. Woaahhh, that makes my decision even easier :D'

Also here is confirmation for the 2 slots on the old blade not that i am doubting Alatar....just providing extra info

Just watched the IGN first look on the New Blade an the screen is way glossy and reflective. I know they had to have glass for multi-touch but man is it glossy.

I'm curious to see how well that form factor handles the 870m. It's effectively a 100W TDP video card, really just a 680m on a 192-bit bus but with faster GPU and RAM.

Where'd you get the 10% coupon?

Why no 17" model with proper centered trackpad?

I don't mind LCD but buttons have to go, no reason to have small left/right buttons below trackpad on 2014 premium laptop.

Also trackpad needs to be centered and the empty space on the right could be used to add four more rows of dynamic keys. That would be a logical setup.

I think they tried to keep outward design pretty similar. The bottom half of the 14" chassis is apparently the same, screen is thicker though. Maybe it saves them money? Not sure if it would cost significantly more to change the construction of the outer body.

Seeing as I just bought the pro a whopping 2 weeks ago and it had to be sent back due to a defective key, I wonder if I could possibly upgrade to this, if I pay the difference?

Definitely will do, I literally got it two weeks ago today, and had to send it back due to the L key not working. So I just tossed support and email. :)

    I'll keep you guys posted.

Hahaha yeah, it was a little frustrating, it would work at times for about the first stroke or two, then would stop. A few hard presses later it would start again, then stop, so after the second day Razer Support had emailed me back instructing me to send it in for an inspection.

But by then I was out of town for work and only managed to send it back last Friday.

If they do manage to up it to the new model, that would be quite fantastic.

Actually you are missing somthing becuase people are forgetting to account for the fact the 860m in the razer pro is the maxwell version not the kepler one so if you go to this link AnandTech | NVIDIA
And go down to the chart and see the comparasion between the 860m and 870m you will see that the 860m is better and dont let the number of cores fool you becuase in maxwell 1 core is equal to a little over 2 cores in kepler which is what the 870m is so from that it shows the razer has a more powerful gpu that because its maxwell aslo consumes less battery and also runs alot coller than the 870m

A single maxwell core has about 90% of the processing power of a Kepler core but greatly increased efficiency. Make no mistake though, you'll need many more maxwell cores to really overcome beasts like the 880m/780m, or even 680m/870m.

I'm not so sure... GTX 750m ti puts out on average ~76% performance of a GTX 660 with only 67% of GTX 660's core count and comparable clock speeds -- this with 16 ROPs vs 24 on the 660. Unless I'm missing something (which is quite plausible :)) it looks like Maxwell cores have somewhat more processing power than Kepler. (and this is a comparison with both chips on 28nm)

It's pretty tough to try and do and apples to apples comparison with these gpus. Don't forget that the maxwell has a built in arm processor to help offset some the load it normally sent to the cpu. This allowed them to cut the memory bus bandwidth and reduce power required. I like the Maxwell's for the new design, of course a die shrink to 20nm in 4th quarter of this year will be nice. Also dont forget dx 12 support is going to open up some performance in the fermi, keplar and maxwell chips. It'll be a great year for vid cards.

No ARM built in yet, not until they get to 20nm.

But I believe 860m Maxwell will easily be able to compete with 870m Kepler at stock speeds because OC potential is so good with the low power and thermals of the 860m. And in a tight package like the Blade, the 870m will unlikely clock higher than stock.

So pretty much this is a half step. They reworked some code for efficiency and added 2mb of cache to offset the small mem bus bandwidth.

Well it better be around 150W because that's what the power brick is rated.
Not sure if that's really enough though considering all the high end components.
