I have been a lurker on these forums for several months but never bothered with an account since I would typically find my answer and be on my way. I intend for this to be an ongoing thread with my order with Mythlogic so this first post is only about the ordering so far. As the computer goes through the building, testing and shipping stages I will update it, at least that is my intention.
When my old HP DV6000 finally died just before Christmas I decided it was time to spend the money on a real gaming computer. My wife had purchased a computer from XOTICPC just a couple of months before my laptop died and had a great experience with them so they were my first choice. As I researched the system I wanted, primarily on these forums, I discovered several of the other Clevo/Sager resellers but found myself intrigued with Mythlogic and the reviews for them, especially the part where they built the computers themselves and put them through rigorous testing before sending them out to their customers.
After visiting the Mythlogic website and doing more research I was finally ready to order. I compared their prices to the Sager resellers and while they were a little more expensive, they included items like monitor calibration and the diamond thermal compound where they would have been upgrades elsewhere. With those items included in the Mythlogic price, Mythlogic came out almost dead even in price. Although I may not have chosen those options if I had chosen one of the regular resellers I knew I was getting something for the difference in price, not to mention the hands-on testing and custom building that originally attracted me to them from this and other forums.
I placed my order two weeks ago and chose to send a check for the cash discount. I knew this would cost a week for the build but I was perfectly fine with that. I had already waited a few months as I researched what I wanted so what was another week or so. Once the check cleared I have watched my order go into the parts allocation phase and I have made some tweaks and upgrades to it in that time. Mythlogic quickly made the changes to my order and I paid for the upgrades with paypal so it would not cost more time by sending another check.
The computer has been in that stage for a week but Mythlogic's customer service has been great and I was told all the parts are on their way and expected early next week when the computer will move to the build stage. Their online chat person has been very helpful, courteous and professional and any e-mails I have sent have been quickly responded to, even when I sent them outside their regular business hours.
I am looking forward to watching the build process continue and have not had any second thoughts in choosing Mythlogic. As I said in the beginning, I will keep this thread posted through the build process to delivery and then into performance.

I didn't complete the subject before submitting, I meant to call the thread, First Custom Gaming Laptop by Mythlogic.
-
Since I said that this was going to be an ongoing thread as the computer went through all the stages I have a minor update. The system went from the Parts Allocation Complete stage (which means all the parts are either on-hand or have been ordered) to being placed in the Build Queue yesterday.
I wasn't going to check today but work slowed down this afternoon so I logged on and discovered that the system is now in the Hardware Build Stage. It says on the Mythlogic site that average turnaround time for a system is 12-15 days. Fingers crossed but it looks like it is moving along right on time.
Excitement growing! Plus my wife will be happy to be the sole user on her laptop again and I won't have to worry about getting dirty looks when I walk toward where it is sitting. -
The computer has hit the QA and Test stage!
According to the website the computer will "undergo a rigorous 72 hour burn-in process and must exceed a minimum benchmark" before they ship it. I don't want to copy and paste everything from their website here since that is easily looked up. This is just supposed to be my experience with purchasing from them. -
I, too, recently (a week ago) ordered a Mythlogic based on what I read here on the forums. Mine is still in step 3, parts allocation and has been for about a week (one week tomorrow). I'm trying to be patient, but I haven't been this excited for something in a long time.
Looks like you're just a few days ahead of me, so I'll be watching this thread closely as a kind of warm up to getting mine. -
Mine was in Parts Allocation for exactly a week. I contacted them 5 days after it first went into that stage to see if there were any problems but they said it was normal and told me that everything was supposed to arrive in the beginning to the middle of this week. As it turned out it happened even sooner and it was only in the Build Queue and Hardware Build Stages for a day each.
I'm sure your computer will hit those stages in a day or two lunchbox88 and I know exactly how you feel about being patient. Congrats on getting a new computer! -
I'm really hoping it hits those stages soon. The anticipation is killing me!
Congrats to you too! -
Just checked the Mythlogic site and it is at Stage 7 - Ready to Ship! According to the description this means it is packaged and waiitng for pickup.
The Mythlogic site says "Average turnaround time for most systems is 12-15 business days from date of payment until the date it is shipped out." This is day 11 from when the payment cleared.
@lunchbox88 - If you are still watching this thread, how is your system progressing? -
Still watching, still waiting, still at stage 3. I emailed them today, and they said that Clevo is being stingy with the graphics cards. They're trying to get everything out ASAP, but are at the mercy of suppliers, and unwilling to sacrifice quality. I understand, and am not angry at all. They're still well within the 12 - 15 business days they list as average turn around. If it takes a little longer, that's fine too. I'd rather that everything is as close to perfect as possible.
-
@lunchbox88 - Sorry to hear yours is delayed but if it is Clevo being stingy then that means everyone who uses them will be slowed for the same reason. Fingers crossed for you and keep us posted. With your input that makes this a double review of ordering.
To update my own system, I received an e-mail from UPS last night and the system is on its way. It was still marked 'Ready to ship' on the website late last night but it has been updated to 'Shipped' now. It is scheduled to arrive Monday. -
Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. So far everything has gone pretty smoothly, and they are still within the 12-15 business day window they give as the average. I'm sure everything will move along next week.
Very excited for you, and a bit jealous. -
Well, I chatted with Myth last night, and was told that they are expecting a shipment from Clevo this week that would include my video card. Again, I'm not upset by any of this as I didn't expect it overnight. The only problem that I'm now having is that since it hasn't shipped yet, I'm thinking of having them paint the lid.
@wcraft71 - I hope yours arrived safe and sound yesterday, and that you're having a great time with it! -
Just another quick update on mine. I just checked and it's now at stage 4, placed in the build queue. I also requested a quote soon on what a custom paint job would cost.

Well, I'm having the lid painted. This means the laptop will probably be done while I'm out of town. Will be pretty awesome to come home to have this waiting for me. Much applause to the crew at MYTHLOGIC for putting up with all my emails, and this last minute change. I'm sure they want to slap me.
I'm also convinced they're always working. Tim, the guy I've been working with on the paint job, emailed me a mock up of the lid last night at 10:50 PM central time. Super impressed. I'll have to see if I can order them some pizza and beer. -

@lunchbox88: Glad to hear that yours is proceeding along.
Good choice on having it painted, the basic look is nice but some computer bling would have been sweet. If mine ever goes back as part of the Phoenix Upgrade that Mythlogic offers (one of the reasons I chose them) then I will have it the exterior spruced up.
Sorry I haven't posted an update of my own, this week became crazy busy between personal life and work. I have barely had more than two hours to play with it. Here is a short synopsis and I will post a more in-depth review, along with unboxing photos, either this weekend or early next week.
The computer arrived Monday, April 1st and was delivered in the morning. I was at work and my wife sent me a picture of the large box it arrived in. She told the UPS guy that it was a laptop and he didn't believe her...it was a big outer box. The computer was very well packaged in a second box inside the first and surrounded by packing peanuts. I had opted for the Nyx 3712 (Clevo P370EM) for the 17" screen and dual AMD Radeon 7970M Graphic Cards and had been toying purchasing the larger Nyx 5713 (Clevo P570WM). Thank goodness I didn't since the 3712 is big enough on its own (my wife has nicknamed it the Jumbotron).
For the short time I have used it the computer has run flawlessly, another reason I went with Mythlogic. Not being very knowledgeable in computers, I wanted it thoroughly tested first and looking at the benchmarks it came with it certainly looks like it was put through its paces.
The only problem I have had turned out to not be the computer but with the video file I was trying to run. I had copied the file over from my wife's computer and after 9 minutes of 58 it hung up. I rebooted and it kept doing it at the same point and I couldn't skip past it. I tried it on the wife's computer and it ran fine but it was the original file. I was afraid it was a problem with the 7970M but then tried playing my copy of the file back on the wife's computer and she had the same problem. Recopying the original file back over to my computer allowed me to play it perfectly fine. It was a strange problem but I was very relieved that it was some bizarre copy glitch (user error I'm sure) and not the computer.
I will post more as I get time to load a game and play and but so far I couldn't be happier with my purchase from Mythlogic. -
Awesome! I opted for the 1712 as I couldn't find a reason for the 3712 for me personally. I'm a developer, and this will mainly be used for that. I don't need SLI/XFire to type gibberish, and I don't game enough to justify the additional cost.
I'm sure that I won't have the laptop before I go out of town. My wife and I leave on Friday for FL and the Bahamas for 10 days for our 10 year anniversary.
I really can't say enough about the guys at Mythlogic though. Extremely responsive, extremely professional, extremely courteous and polite. Oh, and Tim did an awesome job mocking up what I wanted for the lid.
Glad to hear that everything's going well with the new machine, and I look forward to reading more. -
lunchbox88, does your system have nVidia optimus? That is assuming you bought it with the nVidia GPU.
-
Yes, it will have Optimus. I got the 675mx.
Also, I noticed that mine has moved to stage 6, QA and Test. Not sure when this happened, either yesterday or today maybe? I don't really care when it happened, just excited that it did happen. I still don't think I'll get this before I go out of town, but that's not an issue. I wouldn't be bringing it with me anyway. -
Just a quick update. Still waiting for the lid to get back from the painter. A little disappointed that it's taking so long, but still not upset. Of course, I'm sitting on a beach in the Bahamas right now, so it's hard to be upset about anything except going home on Monday. I was hoping to have the laptop waiting for me when I got back, but that's not looking like it's going to happen. Soon, hopefully.
-
Enjoy your vacation
Trust me we are beating the paint guy up everyday to get it done.
-
Honestly, if I were to do it over again, I don't know that I'd have the lid painted. I didn't realize it would delay it for over 2 weeks. Granted, it's my fault for deciding to have it done at the last minute. Oh well, I'm getting a machine with the options I want and it will be unique in appearance. Really not too much I can complain about.

Looks like it will be delivered on Tuesday! They posted a picture of the lid on Facebook, and it looks amazing!
-
Delivered, unboxed, and in use. First impressions are very positive. It's very fast, very responsive, and very beautiful. I'll give a more in depth review when I've had a little more time to play with it. A big thanks to the guys at MYTHLOGIC!
-
Go have fun enjoy some games. -
Ok, I've had a full day to play with the laptop, so here's a quick review: This is the best laptop I've ever used.
Here's my configuration:
Nyx 1712 (Clevo P170EM)
Custom painted lid (Hugger Orange with a white hockey stripe)
i7 3740qm
16GB 1600MHz RAM
256GB Crucial M4 SSD
750GB HDD
BD ROM
Killer 1202
GTX675MX
Windows 8 Pro
From off to usable Windows is about 25 - 30 seconds. Everything opens RIGHT NOW. It's fantastic. I installed a Crucial M4 in my old laptop so I knew the performance I would get from that. It's somehow more impressive on this computer. I'm a programmer, and I don't really game, so I can't speak to performance in that regard. I can tell you that Visual Studio 2012 opens very fast, not to mention the fact that it installed faster then I've ever seen. I still have a couple more things to install (Office, and SQL Server to name a couple), but everything so far is fantastic.
The keyboard is pretty good. There's a couple keys that feel a little "spongy" but nothing that really annoys me. I type pretty hard, having learned on an old mechanical typewriter, so I don't really have too many issues.
The speakers sound pretty good, and I haven't had any issues with listening to headphones. Now, I don't expect perfect sound from a laptop, so I'm not disappointed at all. I'm not using $500 super fancy headphones (think more $15 Sony earbuds).
The display (17.3" matte 1080p) is spectacular. MYTHLOGIC calibrates all their displays, and all I really know is that this one is wonderful. I kind of wish I could see what it looked like stock. I haven't found any dead or stuck pixels.
Everything arrived well packed (a box within a box surrounded by packing peanuts in another box). The lid is spectacular. There are a couple of small flaws in the paint job, but I'm not complaining. I have a unique computer, and looking at the lid makes me happy.
Now, MYTHLOGIC as a company is beyond great. I can't say enough about them. They put up with all my annoying emails and really built me a wonderful computer. I have no doubt that if anything goes wrong they will be quick to respond and resolve the issue. I will be recommending them to anyone looking for a new computer. I have a friend who is very anxious to see mine as he is probably looking to replace a several year old Alienware. I have no doubt he'll be as impressed as I am. -
Oh, I forgot to mention that one side of the lid was not fully snapped on. A little bit of pressure, and it clicked into place.
-
I didn't mean to let so much time pass but things got very busy for me after my last post. I accidentally deleted all the photos from when I initially unboxed the computer so I no longer have them to share.
The computer is still working just as flawlessly today as when I first received it. I haven't played any of the newer high-end games on it but going from a sluggish HP DV6000 with the settings set to low just so I can run the game to running it on the Mythlogic system on Ultra settings with no hesitation is an amazing change. I'm still very happy with the system and it still exceeds all my expectations. -
Glad you are still enjoying it =)
-
Just wanted to say thanks, got my np8170 matte screen I ordered. plugged it in and no dead pixels. definitely one of the best shops here at NBR.
another great deal with you guys.
Thanks again,
First Mythlogic
