New member here and this is my first post. After researching since the beginning of October, I just purchased a new laptop from HIDevolution. It has the new Intel Core i7-8700K so I will be waiting a few weeks for it to come in. Customer service and responses from HIDevolution were great, and @Ted@HIDevolution was patient as I emailed what probably was too many questions about SSD's, processors and thermal materials. I was originally choosing between an MSI GT75 and the ASUS G703, but the stellar reviews from this forum swayed me to purchase an EVOC. Thanks to everyone on here. The resources available here are very valuable.

We can agree that HIDevolution does offer good services, but what kinda makes me wonder is how exacly "stellar reviews" on a non released product made you choose something over the other?.

Also thanks for the Asus notebook, if the marketing is telling the truth, then that thing is a monster. I'll look more into that one.

Very good point, so let me clarify. In mentioning "stellar reviews," I meant the reviews of HIDevolutions and their customer service and support. You are correct that there are no reviews yet on the laptop I ordered. I just researched the processor's performance statistics and decided that I wanted to go with an 8th generation for gaming purposes. I also researched the video card, screen and drives for the best overall blend of technology and price. So, I am really putting my faith in the build quality and support behind the build because it is an "unknown" product. Therefore the company I purchased from was an important part of the decision.

Congrats to you OP! you bought the best laptop in today's date hands down! The Prema BIOS is a must on ANY Clevo laptop, in fact, I wouldn't even consider buying a Clevo laptop if it weren't for the Prema BIOS.

    Benefits of Prema BIOS:

    • Restores user ability to overclock or underclock the CPU
    • Restores user control over CPU power settings (voltage, watts, amps) for optimal performance and/or thermal efficiency
    • Restores ability to control non-turbo CPU core ratio
    • Restores ability to control CPU c-states and p-states
    • Restores ability to control BCLK (northbridge) and FCLK (System Agent) frequency
    • Restores ability to enable Intel Speed Shift Technology functionality
    • Restores ability to disable Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) functionality which is intended for software developers who want to use that feature and causes erratic system behavior
    • Restores ability to control RSR, Watchdog Timer, ASPM, ACPI sleep and hibernation functionality
    • Restores ability to control RAM timings, clock speeds and enables the utilization of XMP profiles
    • Restores ability to control selection of Legacy, UEFI and CSM to install whatever operating system is desired
    • Restores ability to control CPU-based DEP, AES (encryption) and Virtualization
    • Restores ability to control GPU scaling, PCIe speed and power management features
    • Restores control over Thunderbolt and USB 3.1 configuration
    • Restores control over SATA port configuration and Intel LPM. Having the ability to disable drive ports allows exclusive control over what drive receives the BCD/boot sector, system and recovery partitions during Windows Setup and eliminates the need to physically remove non-OS drives when installing a new OS.

Also, once you get it, since you're part of the EVOC Gaming Team, feel free to tag me once you get it and I can help you do the following tweaks via TeamViewer:

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling cortana, etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly
6- Restoring the classic Windows 7 Calculator and Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Turning off smart multi-homed DNS name resolution in Windows which may lead to DNS Leakage when using a VPN (must have Windows 10 Pro for disabling it as it can only be disabled via the Group Policy Editor)

I also forgot to mention that you made the best choice getting it from HIDevolution as they do in-house CPU delidding to tame those temps in addition to quality thermal paste applications!

I did a little cleaning in here. OP bought a new laptop and is quite excited, as they should be. (Congratulations @jap2112; post up some pics and benchmarks when you get it).

Excellent choice on the EVOC P870TM1. The P870DM3 was the most amazing laptop I have ever owned, and I have had a bunch. And, yes... @Ted@HIDevolution and his team are truly awesome.

Many members of this community are eager to see how the 8700K works in that beast.

You have right about cpu. I think we sell all refresh K-cpu's with delid as standard option. I heard many bad opinions. But who knows. Will see.

Delidding the 8700K on my liquid-cooled desktop lowered the CPU load temps about 18°C, which is essentially the same improvement I saw on SKL and KBL. CFL runs too hot without a delid, but not any more so than SKL or KBL. The most interesting thing will be to see how the cooling systems handle an extra 40-50W of overclocked CPU power. I'm already seeing as much as 160W @ 5.2GHz from my 8700K.

I just ordered my P870TM1 today. It's replacing my P670RS that got stolen. How was heat management on the previous version of the P870 @Mr. Fox ?

It was great once the right steps were taken to correct the issues with how it ships from the factory. Since you made the wise choice to buy from HIDevolution, most (if not all) of that will be taken care of for you. By right steps, I mean:
    • CPU Delid with Conductonaut
    • Foam barriers to trap accidents using liquid metal on top of IHS
    • Removing c-clips on CPU heat sink spring screws
    • Lapping IHS (Bitspower Sky Lake IHS recommended)
    • Reducing thermal pad thickness to improve die contact (applied to CPU and GPU)
Since the TM1 has many changes related to heat sinks, unknown if all of the above will be necessary. Delid and using liquid metal under the IHS, and lapping the IHS, will be mandatory if you want reasonable temps.

It's essentially guaranteed your CPU temps will suck if you do not delid. This has been the case with 4790K, 6700K, 7700K and 8700K. They all have sucky temps without a delid, and that applies to desktops as well.

When you say delid do you mean run it without the IHS or just replacing the stock TIM? @Mr. Fox

Replacing the stock TIM with liquid metal. Running bare die is not recommended, and would require a heat sink mod to achieve bare die contact.

Are any mods needed for the bottom panel to increase air flow, or is it good enough as it is?

I've been gaming on mine non-stop since I got the machine. The vent holes are pretty sizable and well placed. I havent found the need to modify anything as of yet. GPU sits at around 70c and cpu at about 50c while playing Overwatch on maxed out settings. Same with PUBG and Fortnight.

Is it a given then that this set up will run hot at stock settings without a delid? I think mine might be getting sent back.

How can clevo not test it or even sell something so expensive that needs rebuilding just to work correctly.

Because Clevo just ships the base system to the system builders, it is up to them to then add components like CPU, RAM, SSDs etc. Hence, they have nothing to do with delidding, they just sell barebone systems. So unless you find a good system builder that will do the CPU delidding, then you won't get very good temps from the CPU because think of it, these are desktop class CPUs running in a small laptop body, it's good that they are even run and cope with the immense heat that these CPUs produce. that's when delidding, a good thermal paste job with a good thermal paste come into play and what differentiates one reseller for their overall quality vs another

Guess I'm gonna have to try it myself and lose my warranty. The UK seems miles behind for upgrading laptops.
