    Hello person reading this,

I've become impatient for the new Kepler/Ivy Bridge laptops to come out (because my 4 year old Macbook is like falling apart), so I decided to order a new laptop soon.

I found a laptop from Prostar (the P170HM which has these specs:

Screen 17.3" 1920 x 1080 Full HD (16:9) LED Backlit Glare Type Display, Super-Wide Viewing Angles
CPU Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor, 2.2 GHz (Max Turbo Frequency 3.1GHz), 6MB Smart Cache
Thermal Compound IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU 1
    Memory 8GB, PC3-10600/1333Mhz DDR3 - 2 x 4GB
Graphic Cards AMD Radeon HD 6990M w/2GB GDDR5
Hard Drive 750GB/7200rpm 16MB Cache Buffer SATA-300 (SATA II 3GB/s)
    2nd Hard Drive N/A
    RAID RAID - None Enabled
    Operating System Without Operating System

Built-In 2.0M Pixels Digital Video Camera
    Built-In Fingerprint Reader
    Built-In Gigabit Ethernet LAN
    Built-In 9-IN-1 Flash Memory Reader(MMC/RSMMC/MS/MS Pro/MS DUO/SD/Mini-SD/SDHC/SDXC)
    1 IEEE-1394a Fire Wire
    2 USB 2.0 Ports
    2 USB 3.0 Ports
    1 eSATA Port
    1 HDMI Output
    1 DVI-I Port
    1 CATV Port
    1 Kensington Lock Port
    Built-in Microphone, 4 Speakers and 1 Sub-Woofer
    4 Audio Jacks for Headphone, Microphone-In, S/PDIF-Out, and Line-In
1 100/240V Autoswitch AC Power Adapter
    Standard Carrying Case with Strap

All this adds up to a grand total of $1449, which is incredibly cheap considering it's a 6990m.

Anyone have any past dealings with them of any kind, or if you've purchased a Clevo laptop from them before?

I was considering ordering from them, but turned away after noticing several typos on one of their pages. You could just order through Xoticpc if you're wary of ProStar.

I'm in the same boat, I really want a 17.3" with a 6990m for around 1450 or 1500. I might have to settle for the 150M through Malibal with the 6970m which is only 4-5% slower than the 6990m when overclocked.

The 7970, 7990 isn't even out yet or planned to release or be made.

I would maybe suggest ReflexNotebooks.. they might be cheaper if you need a laptop in Canada? But I might be wrong.

Seems like a legitimate build to me, so good luck :D

    Dear Sir,

Your quotation looks like a little old to me. This is a special offer we did in March, 2012. And P170HM is not an Ivy Bridge model.

We are currently offering Clevo P170EM with new AMD 7970M VGA card. This is an Intel Ivy Bridge model. The estimated available date is Mid-June, 2012.

    Sincerely yours,

    Prostar Computer, Inc.

    :D

thanks for the reply. i'm mainly just browsing for now but would really love a new machine...possibly when the 7970m drops or soon afterwards, but it's always good to have a reference point just in case for the future.

actually, a question about the shipping: i live in Toronto, do all laptops ship from CA? does the free UPS ground shipping have any hidden brokerage fees? i also suppose the free shipping does not include if i choose express shipping, etc?

thanks for the helpful responses, guys

If you select Free Ground shipping to Canada, you need to pay about US$78 custom brokerage fee and Canadian sales taxexs like GST, HST and PST.

If you select Priority Service to Canada, you just need to pay Canadian sales taxes, becuase the custom brokerage fee is included when you use Priority Service.

    Sincerely yours,
