I spent countless hours on the NBR forums researching potential gaming notebooks. When I finally narrowed down the potential candidates to sager resellers, I saw a distressing post from another Hawaii resident who had purchased from XoticPC (and was upset with the failure to account for Hawaii orders efficiently). Consistent with said post, I checked out xoticpc, lpc digital, powernotebooks, etc. Every single one of them offered free UPS ground to the continental US ONLY. None of them made allowances in their online ordering process for shipping to Hawaii. This is made even stranger by the fact that even Sagernotebook allows for shipping to Hawaii as part of the normal online ordering experience.

So, I have to ask... Keeping in mind that Hawaii is the westernmost State of the United States, that Hawaii has an enormous number of computer users, and that Hawaii has no where near enough computer stores to satisfy the many computer users, why don't all Sager resellers go the extra mile and allow us to place an online order with shipping to Hawaii? (Rhetorical Question only.)

In any event, based on months of research at NBR (and the many good responses I saw from XoticPC), I am convinced that XoticPC is a company from whom I would like to order the laptop. So, I inquired about shipping to Hawaii via the online chat mechanism on their website. And, Josh said they would help me out in that regard. With that in mind, I intend to make that purchase within the next 48 hours assuming they can handle it expeditiously. And, I intend to let the rest of you know how it goes. I am hopeful that by doing so other Hawaii residents will not have to think twice about using XoticPC.

Needless to say, I'll update you all shortly on my attempts to purchase an 8278-S (optioned with 4810HQ, nvidia 970, 8gig ram, Samsung 250gig SSD configured with win 8.1 OS, 1 TB 7200rpm HD & BluRay.)...

First update: Made an account on XoticPC, Selected Options on 8278-S, Placed in Cart, Up popped menu for shipping stating offering ground (not for Hawaii)... and UPS 2 day blue. Chose UPS 2 day blue and hit submit. So, while website doesn't explicitly mention 2 day blue as a shipping option prior to ordering, it does definitely appear as a normal part of the ordering process. Nicely done XoticPC.

Great to hear Josh is taking care of you. We have no restrictions to shipping to Hawaii in general, its just that the "free" UPS ground shipping does not apply for Hawaii or Alaska as it is much more expensive for shipping.

Second Update: Received a call from XoticPC later today indicating the UPS blue prices (listed on the original order as approximately $89) do not apply to Hawaii; as a result, those prices need to be custom quoted on a case by case basis. Ada, who was very friendly and apologetic, worked up the shipping prices for me. And, when the ground UPS price came back at more than $160 to ship the notebook to Hawaii, I regretfully cancelled the Order.

Long story short: I am very sorry to report there does not appear to be an expedient, nor cost efficient way to order goods for Hawaii thru XoticPC.

On the other hand, I do want to say that everyone I dealt with at XoticPC was polite and friendly. So, I am really bummed that I cannot buy from them due to the shipping costs.

Suggestion to XoticPC and others: look at alternate shippers, consider renegotiating rates with UPS based on your volume, look at 3 day air, space available, FedEx, etc.

And, at the very least, if you are gonna offer free ground shipping to the continental US, figure out how to automate the shipping cost calculator and consider deducting the cost of what would have been free ground shipping to the West Coast from the shipping to Hawaii, etc., but don't just leave the situation as is. You have far too many potential purchasers left wanting in Hawaii.

I'm sure USPS will be cheaper if that was an option.

On just about every other forum I contribute to, it is pretty easy to figure out how to PM. I have to sheepishly admit, I have not figured out how to do it on this forum...

See what I mean about XoticPC folk? Thanks Hutsady.

XoticPC just needs a satellite Office in Maui. Rotate the employees thru for sun and surf... And, then drop off the notebooks. No more shipping hassles. :-D

    Happy to help ;)

If we did have a office in Maui I'd be the first to sign up for that!

When I asked LPC-Digital about the same thing (shipping to Hawaii), they told me to use the UPS 3-Day Select option, which was around $80 if I remember correctly. XoticPC is an awesome company for sure, but LPC also has an excellent reputation, and they are usually less expensive.

The options available do vary time to time. They offer ground in some cases, 3 day the next week, and then only two day after that. That's why we custom quote all the shipping costs to anywhere outside the contiguous US.
