I finally just decided to go ahead and purchase a new laptop. After looking through countless Sager resellers for my configuration, Xotic PC was the cheapest.

There isn't much to say at this point in time since I just put the order through about 20 minutes ago, but I am ecstatic and can't wait to receive the product. Mind you, this laptop will be a drastic upgrade coming from a Thinkpad T60 & a Q6600 desktop.

The price blew away any comparable laptop from other manufacturer's and the reviews on the Clevo's are top notch. So, I decided to splurge a bit and purchase a new laptop as a mixture of a birthday gift and a reminded to not smoke anymore because I was able to save a good amount of money in a short period of time!

*Taps foot impatiently* Maybe I'll just call out of work and sleep until this laptop gets here... I need to benchmark it ;).

Thanks guys over at Xotic PC!

I'm sure they're still processing, but do you have an eta yet? Interested to see what the production times are currently at for different models..

Currently, it's in Phase 2 (Build Stage). It began at approximately 3PM EST yesterday, so it didn't make the cut to start building yesterday. However, I'm assuming it began today.

The e-mail they quoted me a 5-12 day production time. I doubt it'll take that long seeing as nothing in my build is custom, no OS, etc. I was debating requesting just to send me the parts so it'd get shipped today, but I figured I'd leave it to the guys at Xotic.

The production time sounds like a typical, generalized timeline set forth in case it got overly busy or parts ran low. Who knows though? Xotic is good with their e-mail updates, so I am very happy so far with my purchase.

would they do that? just send you the parts that is.. that kind of defeats the purpose of not buying a barebones and assembling it yourself. Plus they wouldn't be able to give you any warranty if you did it yourself right?

Would they do it? Not sure, I didn't ask. The thought just vaguely crossed my mind is all. I'd assume there'd be some warranty issues associated with it. But then again, the hardware should have it's own warranty, shouldn't it?

We don't offer sending parts out for user install on the initial build. Sometimes its possible if there are any warranty/service needs just so you're not without a computer. For quality assurance, burn in, final QA etc it has to be fully put together before its send out.

Why on earth does this Sager model (and its 17" equivalent) have the speakers on the bottom? All the next up models which are the same footprint and roughly the same size have the speakers above the keyboard like every normal configuration. I've had a laptop with the speakers in the bottom and that is just a very poor design choice on anything except an ultra portable where space is at an utmost premium.

I really want to like this model but that is pretty much an instant deal breaker for me.

There's no room on top... Also when it's located on the bottom, the bass feels more alive as it bounces off the surface you've placed the laptop on creating vibrations rather than going nowhere in thin-air (although you might hear it better...) :p

I'm still curious to hear his impressions. The previous model that this one is replacing had complaints of very weak speakers. I didn't notice if the speakers were in the same position in that model, but hopefully someone does a nice review of it when the shipments start going out.

    HAHAHA! :)).

I also heard that the 6165 speakers are really bad 5/10(conservatively speaking). np6110 has better speakers than this model according to some people. dont know how true though!

Will definitely update you guys once this arrives! It should be here Wednesday... It didn't ship out until Friday. 4 days build time, not too bad. Shipped from California.

As far as the Speakers go:

I never really looked into the speakers on this model. Mostly because they don't bother me. I'm a bit of an Audiophile, so I have my own little setup between headphones, speakers, DAC, and Amplifiers.

But I will definitely give them a review as well!

Laptop arrived today, unfortunately I had to work this evening, so I'm still in the middle of setting everything up to my liking.

    First thoughts?
    o
FAST! Sturdy. Great build quality. Power brick stays COOL! I was pleasantly surprised due to the size of this thing... Had me almost worried at first seeing as it's nearly the size of the power brick for an Xbox360. Not to mention they're a dime a dozen.... May have to buy a few more just to stow away in different places. (One for the house, the car, and the bag.. You can never have too many!)

    First negatives?

-BIOS: Locked? That's something I've never came across... and I think it may be hindering me from running OSX in a virtual machine at the moment.
-TouchPad: Eh, it's not too bad, however I'm not a big fan of the texture of it. If it was smooth, I'd find it flawless. It almost feels as though my fingers stick on it. However, on the bright side it is very responsive. I find my finger palm barely scraping it occasionally, and it loves to mess up my typing. ;) Just something to get accustomed to though.
-Speakers: Not my favorite! You guys were definitely right about these. They're VERY sharp, almost ear piercing at times. May have to open this bad boy up to check out what we have inside and to see if I'm able to do a little hacking.

Skrillex - Kyoto : Especially sharp during this song. Have to turn down the volume a considerable amount.
Alice in Chains - Rooster (Unplugged) : Sounds pretty decent actually. (Compared to Skrillex) Vocals are a bit high, however, as a whole the song plays pretty decently.

Ultimately, I feel as though I'm going to stick to my amp and headphones though.

How long did it take for you to get your order from the day of purchase? I'm also very interested in seeing your review of the product.

    Alright:

Basically have everything set up how I'd like now. So the review & benchmarks should be coming shortly. I'm not too certain if I want to retain everything to this thread, or if I want to open a dedicated thread for the review. I also plan to be as thorough as possible with everything I can.

As of right now, I just ran a GeekBench test. Yes, it was ran in 32-bit mode. I currently don't have the money to shell out on a Pro registration to enable 64-bit benchmarks. I'd love to get that done as soon as possible though.

    The laptop scored rather impressively!

CLEVO CO. W150ER - Geekbench Browser

I was quite suprised with how cool the laptop stayed as well. HWMonitor reported no higher than 80C with the laptop sitting on my lap. Once the fans kicked on, temperatures dropped back down to 60-65C.

I'm not too familiar with memory specifics, but judging by the low memory scores, I'm assuming the factory Samsung may be a bottleneck running @ 11-11-11-28.

I'll be looking into memory & SSD upgrades in the very near future.

Lol, that sounds unrealistic... but god knows :p
Awesome to hear!! Congratulations dude, a SSD upgrade would be worth it ;) RAM is pretty cheap now, wait until there's a sale and go for it, actually go for both.
