Okay i finally did my 3d Mark test. My $300 desktop vs my $1300 + 280 shippin.. to canada $1600 in total. I am very disapointed with the score for the laptop. Like seriously i am about to cry but anyways here are the scores and system specs.

Default settings for 3Dmark 06 all updated

    Sager 2090 Score: 1659
    http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13890879

    Sager Specs
    Core 2 duo t7500 2.2 ghz
    2gb of ram
8600 gt 512 mb of ram 128 bit interface
hd 160 gb total 5400 rpm
    vista 32 bit
    Desktop Score: 2636
    http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13890868

    Desktop Spec:
    P4 2.8 ghz ht
nvidia 7800 gs oc 256 mb /256 bit interface
    1.5 gb of ram
    xp 32 bit home

Either laptop just cant compare to $1300 laptop or microsoft (vista) needs to be shot if its effecting the laptop this much:

Well from that score you can tell something's wrong because the NP2090 should at least hit around 3000. Try some new drivers and make sure you installed all of your other drivers. Then make sure you don't have any bloatware/spyware.

A 8600M GT should be scoring at least in the 3000s, try updating your drivers at LaptopVideo2Go.

P.S. You know there's something wrong when my 8400M GS scores higher in the benchmark =P

http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13892692 Updated link new score of 3376 and i dont think anything was wrong with the windows but my battery option was at power surge even though i made sure i clicked on performance. But still very disappointing fps in call of duty 4. My desktop is running much smoother still. 15 fps plus and i am still waitin on the 7800 answer thanks to the replies so far :p

nVIDIA ForceWare X 167.45 for Windows Vista 32bit is that the one you want me to download? The reason i ask is because the orginal inf doesnt support my card 8600 gt.
[DEV_0099&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX
[DEV_00C9&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra
[DEV_0297&SUBSYS_019B1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX

    [DEV_0409&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT
but im guessing the modded inf file will fix that?

okay i downloaded the 169.06 32 bit version and the 169.09, extracted both to seperate folders and then draged over the 169.09 inf file to the 169.06 overwrite and clicked setup error comes up saying no drivers found for your card. I also removed any other old drivers i had sucessfully. So should extract both of em to the same folder and it will just prompt overwrite. Or have i done something complety wrong?

    --------------
i clicked setup.exe to install the drivers but now i clicked the dpinst.exe and they seem to installing with the driver (windows interface) way so they might install :p

-keep the drivers in separate folders
    -overwrite the modified INF
-make sure to uninstall previous Nvidia drivers (in Safe Mode if you need to)
-go into a driver folder that you just downloaded
    -double click on SETUP.EXE

Okay in my desktop i have the nvidia 7800 gs oc 256 mb agp 256 bit interface and is that the the same 7800 that is put in to notebooks???

    question 2
What is better for gaming the 7800 or the 8600 gt for games like call of duty 4 , gears of war, team fortress 2 . Just gaming in general.

    ----
If the 7800 is better should i return my sager 2090 and get a note book with the same other hardware specs and have 7800 in there ( i care about performance for games that are now so dx 10 is no concern.)

Desktop cards are never the same as notebook cards (ever seen a desktop card nex to a laptop? it ain't gonna fit :p)

There will be some similarities but don't expect the desktop 7800 to be the same as the notebook 7800. The 8600gt will be better than the notebook 7800. Also you said you care about current game performance which a lot are switching to dx10 so a dx10 card would be preferred however the 8600gt is poor at using dx10 due to a 128bit bus. Though your desktop runs an agp card which severely limits the data transfer from the card to the computer since the 8600gt in laptops is based off of a pci-e interface. Also, I would return the sager 2090 and get the 5792 with the 8800m gtx if possible and within budget. Otherwise just stick with the 2090, it can't be that bad.

Laptop and desktop versions of GPU's aren't the same thing. Usually a laptop GPU is less powerful then it desktop counterpart. Check the stats of your cards here
    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=360&card2=534
A desktop 7800GS looks more powerful than a 8600M GT, but I'm not sure. You can't just compare DX9 to DX10 cards. It isn't apples to apples.

Either card would be good I guess for those games. I can't say more then that because I don't know at what settings and res you want to run them.

thats just a laptop for you, alot of engineering goes into it hence the high price.

and the performance difference may be due to your graphics card being more powerful on a desktop. or it could be due to drivers

edit: make sure when you playing on your laptop that its plugged in, and if your running on power mode make sure its set to high performance or something similar.

well keep a few things in mind - the laptop drivers are not the same ones as should be used for desktops (desktop 7800 drivers =/= laptop 7800 drivers) so go to www.laptopvideo2go.com and look for the drivers for the 8600gt there. And also, I checked that thread...the cds don't update themselves so by getting the "latest" off a cd it's not really the latest.

Plus desktop components are generally much faster than notebook parts. My 3.0ghz w/ HT and a radeon 9600xt and 1 gig of ram was performing just as well on battlefield 2142 as a dell 1505 with a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of ram, and a radeon x1400 video card. My load times were a little slower but in game mine was just as fast as his dell. It sounds to me like if frame rates are all you're after, just make a desktop gaming rig instead. They'll perform much better per dollar you put in them.

But i need a laptop for school i just think i made a mistake when i paied the etc 600 to get it so i can do what my desktop can do because it should be able to do it... next i know that desktop drivers are different. But seriously everything on the desktop is much slower. huge 3d mark 06 difference between the 2 , laptop had higher. So just answer 1 question 7800 (laptop) vs 8600 m gt. whats better

Not quite sure what you mean. Do you wish to compare a Go 7800 to a 8600M GT? Or a desktop 7800 to a 8600M GT?
    http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=410&card2=534
From the looks of it a Go 7800 has more power than a 8600M GT.

Your desktop could be slower because it older than your laptop. All parts factor in when you game. Your desktop still has a socket 478 Pentium 4 from te looks of it and slower DDR RAM. Your laptop has a Core 2 Duo and faster RAM. Could explain some of the difference.

If you're not happy with your laptop maybe you can return it?

If with the same hardware in my laptop but a 7800 go will be better ill return laptop and buy laptop with the go on it so thats why i am really asking.

From what I have read the 7800m has more power than the 8600m, but the 8600m has more shaders. This means that in general the 7800m will outperform (not sure how much) the 8600m in most games, but in shader intensive games (i.e. Bioshock) the 8600m will be the winner.

I hope this can help and is not so confussing.
