Okay i finally did my 3d Mark test. My $300 desktop vs my $1300 + 280 shippin.. to canada $1600 in total. I am very disapointed with the score for the laptop. Like seriously i am about to cry but anyways here are the scores and system specs.
Default settings for 3Dmark 06 all updated
Sager 2090 Score: 1659

Either laptop just cant compare to $1300 laptop or microsoft (vista) needs to be shot if its effecting the laptop this much:
Note: can you guys with 2090 post your 3d mark 06 scores thanks
-
Well from that score you can tell something's wrong because the NP2090 should at least hit around 3000. Try some new drivers and make sure you installed all of your other drivers. Then make sure you don't have any bloatware/spyware.
-
yep.. my ifl90 w/xp home and same specs (except faster hd) got 3240 in pcmark06 .. in stock condition
-
A 8600M GT should be scoring at least in the 3000s, try updating your drivers at LaptopVideo2Go.
P.S. You know there's something wrong when my 8400M GS scores higher in the benchmark =P -
okay yeah like something has to be wrong .. but did clean install vista 32 yesterday made sure everything was off when did the test and made sure the power setting was on performance also the ac was plugged in. .. PLay cod 4 desktop and laptop sametime, same settings = laptop has 20 fps lesser. SO PLEASE Help should i reinstall windows again cuz maybe i did get some sort of spyware..... but didnt download anything laptop been off the internet but to go check email to get files from desktop and downloaded 3d mark on vent, xfire.. and went on porn site last night but a safe one that i visit every night on desktop so idk.. HELP!
-
okay reinstalling windows right now and im pretty sure it will be good now. But a questions once again whats better nivida 7800 (laptop version) or 8600 gt??? also is desktop and laptop versions even different for 7800 ?
Note: still waiton on some links to sager 2090 3dmark 06 scores - thanks -
i get half the fps without my sager plugged in but that's cause of notebook hardware control (i think)
-
http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13892692 Updated link new score of 3376 and i dont think anything was wrong with the windows but my battery option was at power surge even though i made sure i clicked on performance. But still very disappointing fps in call of duty 4. My desktop is running much smoother still. 15 fps plus and i am still waitin on the 7800 answer thanks to the replies so far
-
what resolution are you running CoD4 at?
and have you tried to run it on DX9 mode? -
Well cod 4 doesn't support dx 10 so im assuming the game is running in dx 9 but i can try. Both desktop running at there native ressoultions. Laptop 1280 x 800 , desktop 1280 x 1024.
-
I am thinking drivers... which version are you using?... stock?
-
i have the latest driver that were provided on the cd by sager which for video card are the same one on the site.
-
then definitely try a newer driver from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
Remember to download the modified INF after downloading the main drivers.
Guide here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64910 -
nVIDIA ForceWare X 167.45 for Windows Vista 32bit is that the one you want me to download? The reason i ask is because the orginal inf doesnt support my card 8600 gt.
[DEV_0099&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX
[DEV_00C9&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra
[DEV_0297&SUBSYS_019B1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX
[DEV_0298&SUBSYS_019B1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS
[DEV_0299&SUBSYS_019B1028] NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX
[DEV_0409&SUBSYS_019B1028] NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT
[DEV_0409&SUBSYS_019C1028] NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT
but im guessing the modded inf file will fix that? -
lemme see....

Go here:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista
I would try a driver 169.xx and above (for Vista 32-bit) -
okay i downloaded the 169.06 32 bit version and the 169.09, extracted both to seperate folders and then draged over the 169.09 inf file to the 169.06 overwrite and clicked setup error comes up saying no drivers found for your card. I also removed any other old drivers i had sucessfully. So should extract both of em to the same folder and it will just prompt overwrite. Or have i done something complety wrong?
--------------
i clicked setup.exe to install the drivers but now i clicked the dpinst.exe and they seem to installing with the driver (windows interface) way so they might install -
-keep the drivers in separate folders
-overwrite the modified INF
-make sure to uninstall previous Nvidia drivers (in Safe Mode if you need to)
-go into a driver folder that you just downloaded
-double click on SETUP.EXE -
so you want me to overwrite inf folder.. which is the 169.09. ? with 169.06
~~~
i clicked setup.exe to install the drivers but now i clicked the dpinst.exe and they seem to installing with the driver (windows interface) way so they might installworked. driver installation sucess restarted comp major crash when it was booting to windows but then i retstarted = fine . but ill reinstall the drivers if i have to drag the 169.06 versoin into the 169.09
-
Okay in my desktop i have the nvidia 7800 gs oc 256 mb agp 256 bit interface and is that the the same 7800 that is put in to notebooks???
question 2
What is better for gaming the 7800 or the 8600 gt for games like call of duty 4 , gears of war, team fortress 2 . Just gaming in general.
----
If the 7800 is better should i return my sager 2090 and get a note book with the same other hardware specs and have 7800 in there ( i care about performance for games that are now so dx 10 is no concern.) -
I just updated my drivers to 169.09 last night, after having my 2090 since October some time.
Anyway...How is everybody obtaining their 3dMark 06 scores?
-
Do you want to tell me what i am doing wrong then lol because when i click the setup.exe it says no driver found for current hardware ... Also i cant even launch cod anymore direct x error.. Which might resolved by reinstalling or reintallin direct x SO HELP
Desktop cards are never the same as notebook cards (ever seen a desktop card nex to a laptop? it ain't gonna fit
)
There will be some similarities but don't expect the desktop 7800 to be the same as the notebook 7800. The 8600gt will be better than the notebook 7800. Also you said you care about current game performance which a lot are switching to dx10 so a dx10 card would be preferred however the 8600gt is poor at using dx10 due to a 128bit bus. Though your desktop runs an agp card which severely limits the data transfer from the card to the computer since the 8600gt in laptops is based off of a pci-e interface. Also, I would return the sager 2090 and get the 5792 with the 8800m gtx if possible and within budget. Otherwise just stick with the 2090, it can't be that bad. -
Laptop and desktop versions of GPU's aren't the same thing. Usually a laptop GPU is less powerful then it desktop counterpart. Check the stats of your cards here
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=360&card2=534
A desktop 7800GS looks more powerful than a 8600M GT, but I'm not sure. You can't just compare DX9 to DX10 cards. It isn't apples to apples.
Either card would be good I guess for those games. I can't say more then that because I don't know at what settings and res you want to run them. -
okay why i even brought this post up is becase my desktop = $300 now my laptop = $1300.
desktop: specs
p4 2.8 ghz ht
7800 gs oc 256 mb agp
1.5 gb of (p2700) kingston hyper x vs my laptop
cod 4 both on laptop and desktop same specs runs slower on laptop by 10 - 20 fps.
right now i have latest drivers from sager for my notebook. So yeah im very frustrated.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=215438&page=2 link to more info on my problem
any help is appreciated
Cod 4 : for desktop:
1280 x 1024
2x aa
model detail normal ( high = in cod 4)
water detial low
textures high
everything = off except bullet impact
laptop
everything same except the ress is at 1280 by 800
can i get the specs for the 7800 that is notebooks cuz i cant find it anymore all i get is the desktop specs and you guys tell me 7800 desktop is different then the 7800 laptop so please specs on the laptop version would be nice
Question 3:
What better 8600 gt or 7800 (laptop) -
thats just a laptop for you, alot of engineering goes into it hence the high price.
and the performance difference may be due to your graphics card being more powerful on a desktop. or it could be due to drivers
edit: make sure when you playing on your laptop that its plugged in, and if your running on power mode make sure its set to high performance or something similar. -
themanwithsauce Notebook Evangelist
well keep a few things in mind - the laptop drivers are not the same ones as should be used for desktops (desktop 7800 drivers =/= laptop 7800 drivers) so go to www.laptopvideo2go.com and look for the drivers for the 8600gt there. And also, I checked that thread...the cds don't update themselves so by getting the "latest" off a cd it's not really the latest.
Plus desktop components are generally much faster than notebook parts. My 3.0ghz w/ HT and a radeon 9600xt and 1 gig of ram was performing just as well on battlefield 2142 as a dell 1505 with a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of ram, and a radeon x1400 video card. My load times were a little slower but in game mine was just as fast as his dell. It sounds to me like if frame rates are all you're after, just make a desktop gaming rig instead. They'll perform much better per dollar you put in them. -
make sure you have the latest DirectX installed.... Nov 2007:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
As for your error... the modified INF should have the 8600M GT support.
I last tested the 169.01 in Vista 32-bit and worked fine for 8600's -
Okay well i know that prices are differnt just cuz im mad i thought id that in. But i need a laptop for school i just think i made a mistake when i paied the etc 600 to get it so i can do what my desktop can do because it should be able to do it... next i know that desktop drivers are different. But seriously everything on the desktop is much slower. huge 3d mark 06 difference between the 2 , laptop had higher. So just answer 1 question 7800 (laptop) vs 8600 m gt. whats better
-
do you any chance have a way where i can contact you for like 2 mins on irc or anything?
-
why do you you just tell him step by step it can be a bit to much for him at times
-
At the moment, I have to go to class... I'll be back around 3-4 hours later.
I recommend to contact Chaz if you need help installing the custom drivers. -
Not quite sure what you mean. Do you wish to compare a Go 7800 to a 8600M GT? Or a desktop 7800 to a 8600M GT?
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=410&card2=534
From the looks of it a Go 7800 has more power than a 8600M GT.
Your desktop could be slower because it older than your laptop. All parts factor in when you game. Your desktop still has a socket 478 Pentium 4 from te looks of it and slower DDR RAM. Your laptop has a Core 2 Duo and faster RAM. Could explain some of the difference.
If you're not happy with your laptop maybe you can return it? -
the laptop is performing slower in games as you said everything is better in the laptop.. so it should be performing better and yes i want compare the 7800 go to 8600 gt. If with the same hardware in my laptop but a 7800 go will be better ill return laptop and buy laptop with the go on it so thats why i am really asking.
-
I hope this can help and is not so confussing. -
YEAH I got class as well C++ il be back in 4 hours
Please do not create more than one thread on the same topic. You already posted about this and I merged the two threads.
o the reason i did that because the one seemed to be more gaming related and i wanted a different people reply since different people sometime check different threads. But thanks CHAZ FTW . But hey Chaz can you help me out bro. - leaving in 10 mins to catch bus hehe and ill be using my laptop on the go in the bus for the first time
It appears that the 8600m GT is considerably faster than the 7800 go. This does NOT mean that it is faster than a desktop 7800 however.
