I'm running out of room.
Laptop came with two 500gb drives and rather than go the external drive route I thought I'd find out first if the drives can be changed out for larger ones.
My model is 3yrs old (if that matters) so can anyone tell me if its possible to change out my drives for something quite a lot bigger.
Also, assuming its even possible. Are there lots of other changes required or is it similar to when changing hdd in desktop computer?
Any pointer to URLS covering changing hdd for something bigger. would be appreciated

Yes you can put in drives with more capacity. You just need 2.5" drives and you can get up to 1TB. There are larger capacity ones made, up to 2TB but those are thicker and typically will not fit in there as they will not allow the bottom cover to go back on properly.
For the software aspect of it its the same as changing a desktop and hardware wise its pretty much the same as well. You check your drivers disc that came with the computer and there should be a manual.pdf on there which will also have HDD upgrade instructions. -

You can get a copy of all the latest drivers and do a clean install on your windows key.

Do you mean I can get the manual by pressing the windows key?
Are you suggesting I should do a clean install when upsizing discs? I had hoped to keep the OS as is by cloning it to a new drive. I thought I'd be able to put a new disc in place of current disc 2 and clone across from the os disc (disc 1), then putting the new disc 2 into disc 1 (os or system) slot and just boot from there.
I'm probably forgetting some horrible stumbling block... but I hope a clean install isn't one of them. -
First he was ssaying that if you want to you can doing a Fresh install if you want with your Windows Serial (Key).
But Yes you can just put a Hard Drive into the 2nd Bay and Clone from the 1st drive to the 2nd. Then Put the New drive in first bay it will boot fine -
