Hi!
Need your insights on what this screen issue might be.
Recently my laptop Clevo P775dm3-g has started to show a strange behavior. Usually, when I start the PC the screen freezes greys out in a curtain effect and shows pink vertical lines![]()
Here 2 cases might happen: a) The screen recovers alone and then it is business as usual (might happen again later) or b) I have to hard reset the machine and screen runs normal again (might happen again, though).
Key to understand that everything that is running on the OS keeps running as usual, the system recognizes a Control + Alt + Delete. This happened one time while playing RDR 2 and then the screen recovered, I was able to pause the game, go back to Windows, etc... in the background while the screen was messed up (I know this since the game music kept playing), then the screen recovered and I was able to continue playing as nothing happened. I find it super strange. Thought it would be the GPU dying, but I was able to play RDR2 and League of Legends for 4 hours after the screen recovered, with GPU temps at 65º max under load.
PC was repasted recently.
Thought it would be a driver problem and went back to a more "stable" version of NVIDIA 436.48. But the issue with the screen happened again - so does not seem to be a driver.
Never got a BSOD due to this.
Setup:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070M
RAM: 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4
HDD 1TB
2 x M.2 250GB + 1TB
Display: 4K

Either the GPU itself is running into issues or the display cable/panel. Does moving the lid change the behaviour at all?
Vasudev likes this. -
Will try to move the lid today to check, I usually keep it stable when this happens until it recovers.
Windows event log does not show any warning (it should show if it was a GPU error, no?)
GPU has less than 3 years, strange if it is dying already. How to access this? Should I make a driver clean install? (I have uninstalled the driver via control panel which seems to leave "residue" of previous files)
Perhaps related:
- Battery should have 18.4V (theory, as on the PSU) but usually system runs between 16.6-17.6V
Suggestions:
- Should I stress test the GPU? For how long? As mentioned, yesterday was able to play c.4-5h of Red Dead Redemption (1h-2h) and League of Legends (2h-3h) without any issues. -

Windows has a driver interface to the GPU yes but no idea what is actually sent to the panel.
What does an external screen do? -
Hi! Sorry, I dont have an external monitor to test it properly.

No TV with HDMI even? Not one you can borrow?
-
Sorry, I am in a foreign country (no TV at home) and I believe no one has one to lend.
Just noted that perhaps is the visual connector since now the PC was messing up and after touching the display in a certain way it recovered. If I touched it would recover, if I didn´t was messing up again. -

Then take the bezel off, unscrew the panel and re-seat the connector.

Do you know what is the model of the LCD EDP Cable for a 4K screen, which I assume is this model AOU B173ZAN0 1.0?
Do you know where I can buy one? -

Not off the top of my head but its printed on the end of the cable usually and opening it to that point is WAY easier than replacing the cable.

The notebook got checked and it seems the cable is not damaged or anything. For some reason the LCD did not show the same behaviors there...
What a luck... -

Maybe it was just loose on one end?
