    Hi all,

after reaching 4 hours this afternoon i finally found a way to hardware OC my X9000 @266FSB. The mod is directly on PLL clock generator ICS9LPR365DGLF. I tried before to set it in 1066MHz per SetFSB, but after restart the system won´t run, because PCI frequenz is too high, it´s not locked in 33MHz......Now is no problem at all. :D

The disadvantage of this mod is u must be sure your CPU & RAM can run that high. My Ram runs now @443.4MHz = DDRII 887.... And in order to get 266x13 stable, i also must do the vcore pin mod to get 1.3875v......

3DMark results here, overall is not good, still a old 7950GTX. But CPU score is a quite jump compare to stock. :D

Well, very easy, just reset the BSEL pin of Clock Generator.

    Nice work there... :D

But be carefull with the PCI-e clocks... above 130mhz data corruption can happen on your HDD because the SATA controler uses the PCI-e bus.

Remember that the PCI-e frequency it´s not lockable via pin/hard mod, only the PCI bus... ;)

I'd like to up the juice on my X9100 so I can OC past 3.5GHz
    The $#@! M570TU BIOS doesn't allow it...

    Come on Clevo!

BTW, Very nice work Kaltmond! Very nice indeed.

Just be safe on that... if not, some day your OS will not boot because of some corrupted/not found file(s) and you will need to format and reinstall it again. Same thing to any data, games, music, work...

105Mhz is the safe specified max(5% -/+), so anything above it will stress components linked to that bus. +115Mhz is playing the lucky game. 130Mhz is 30% overclock, wich can cause errors on the data that flow in the bus, insuficient voltage to archieve successful wave switchings on the driver´s IC, de-serialiser problems, wich will cause problems on the SATA controler, network card, wireless card, on-board sound chip, Robson card, VGA card, IDE controler...

Watch your northbridge temperatures too, if they are to high the chipset can degradate faster, and die sonner.

    ;)

PS: Any program allow to check the PCIE/PCI frequency?

The stock retention mechanism it´s completely rubish, thermal pad sucks... with a cooper one, and one modded retention it will contact directly with the NB core(AS5 in the midle), without the 3mm gap like the stock one wich required one thermal pad to fill it... much better thermal transfer and dissipation...

About the PCI-e freq, SetFSB can not read it right/control it on this PLL...

But you can do some calcs... 266-200=66 66/2.2=30 100+30=130 wich means that at 266(x4 = 1066) your PCI-e freq is at 130Mhz.

    ;)

I didn´t use that thermal pad for a long time. Managed to make a direct contact of cooler and chip, still the original Al, havn´t tried a Cu one....

And where do u know that the PCIe is not locked? Havn´t found a datasheet of ICS9LPR363.....

In OEM Notebooks BIOSs the PCIe frequency is on auto as it will scale with your OC, and SetFSB has no feature to lock the increase/decrease to the PCIe frequency. Your PCI Express Frequency has a base of 100. Your FSB has a base of 200.

It´s not PLL specific, it´s controled by the nortbridge/southbridge via low level access to the clockgenerator.

Only boards with PCI-e step freq control in the BIOS can lock it...

That is a very good OC. I had performed a similar one with my D630, which had a custom made BIOS, with a X9000 ES.

I was able to OC the FSB to 288MHz, overvolted the CPU to 1.524V at multiplier 18x, which gave me a frequency of more than 4.7GHz, and a scorching idle temp of 64*C without a cooler. But unlike you, I was able to adjust the PCIe and Memory frequency manually in the BIOS.

    EDIT:

I am in the UK, but I got it from BIOSMAN, and I think he is based in CA, USA.

I never ran Prime95 without the cooler, and I used to hit 85-87 on both cores, and above 90 shown by the thermal zone.

BTW, what does the PCIe frequency have to do with the HDD ?

    Nothing :D

PCI-e and SATA controler is another thing...

The SATA controler (located inside Intel´s southbridge) use the PCI-e bus.

The stock cooling system was pretty useless. I ended up using a heat-sink made by Winstron, and modified it slightly. I don't know for which laptop it was, but it did the job well. Apart from that, I had the NZXT Cryo LX, which was basically for a 15"er, but worked well with my notebook.

It´s not in a socket, wich is quite bad... if any flash goes wrong you will need a new mobo...

Weird, I thought that all boards have SATA controllers off the pci/e bus on their own dedicated bus. I think I'll check out the ICH8 datasheet. :)

Nothing special, just want to have a look. :D It´s pity it doesn´t use normal chips with socket like desktops, or it will be very easy to backup/flash/mod bios options. :D

A little crazy recently. Did voltage mod again and get 266x14 @1.4375v......really really hot und fullload. Run wprime and get 100°C.

Lower to 1.4250v but not fully stable, but max temp now is 80°C.

I found the temp from Core Temp 0.99.3 is always 5-6°C higher than HW Monitor, which one should i trust?

    Nice OC!

CoreTemp is more precise than HWMonitor because it reads the core temps via the Model Specific Register wich is more reliable...

O_O' I wanna see someone do this with a montevina cpu, if they can get the fsb up to 333 that should get you a system that could truly match desktop performance.

Come on Kalt! Have to show us how to do this mod! Also what memory are you using? I have the stock Adata and some high speed Kingston, but the kingston I just got is useless unless I can change the Cas setting before I boot the machine.. So will have to send it back and find memory capable of higher fsb. I cant get stable fsb higher than 230 with my memory.. My X9000 wont go any higher than 3.45 without more voltage either..
