My Sager 9150 is not booting and cant read my ssd with windows on it. When I go to boot options in the bios it doesnt even show.

Did my SSD fail? Can I do something to troubleshoot it now? It's very urgent I need to access files on my laptop.

Edit: in the BIOS, it says SATA port 1 Not Present

    UPDATE:

I tried booting from a USB (I already had ubuntu on it). I pressed F7 in the BIOS and somehow my SSD showed up.. So I went back to the setup to put it back as the main boot option but even though it found it on the first page, I couldn't set it as the main boot option. I just went to F7 again and was able to boot.

What is this all about? Any help is appreciated

Edit: fixed all settings again and everything is back to normal..

    What could have happened?

ive had a similar problem with my corsair force f90 ssd. heres several things to check:

have u recently changed ur bios version? if yes, check and see if u can go back to the previous version. beware tho, some downgrades could brick ur machine.

check and see if there is a firmware update available for ur ssd. make sure to backup all ur data first, since some updates can be destructive.

next time ur ssd isnt detected, try and do a soft-reboot from the bios (boot, go into bios, exit and save), see if that helps with the ssd detection. in my case that did the trick.

if the problem persists, swap out the main disk and see if it still happens with a different drive. if thats the case, then its probably a sata connector rather than a drive issue.

    cheers

I believe that your ssd is conflicting with your laptop motherboard. I could be wrong though. I had similar experience with crucial m4. The second last firmware messed up crucial ssd with motherboard that had uefi support. Sometimes the ssd will not detected by mother board and other times it will. Clevo motherboard had support for this feature and I had that problem, so I downgraded my ssd firmware version.I suggest you look on internet for similar issue that you have because you don't want to have your personal files disappearing

A similar thing had happened with my mSATA SSD. In my case, my laptop ran out of battery before I could plug in the charger. When I did plug in & restart, it would not detect the mSATA. The BIOS said SATA Port <>: Not Present. It showed up all of my other WD drives though.

So I pulled out one of the WDs & put in a SSD which had a boot partition (Windows 7) on it. Restarted. BIOS detected my mSATA & everything was fine.

Happened again last week, this time I didn't have my SSD with me. So I tried the same with a USB. Made it bootable & installed Linux on it. Plugged it in the USB port. Restarted. BIOS 'magically' detects my mSATA now & boots from it.

Lesson Learned (In my case): Always keep the charger close at hand.

May or may not be the same case for you as you didn't mention whether your laptop ran out of charge or not.

Though there is always a reason for even fluke incidents, it sounds like a temporary misconfiguration. I've had scenarios where the hard drive was not recognized during a cold boot, despite absolutely no physical nor software changes. A simple reseating of the connections or BIOS reset fixed it.
