OK guys, i feel like i am at wits end.

I see so many posts here about how cool their 680ms run in the 170EM.. I dont get what i am doing wrong.
In playing MechWarrior Online, with NO overclocks, ambient temp at 74F, i still hit 88-90C, even with the fans forced to high.

Here is what i got going (where it is hitting these temps):
The system has been re-pasted (a few times) with Pk-1 paste (not too thick, not too thin).
The system is sitting on a laptop cooler ( Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim Ultra-Slim Laptop Cooling Pad with 160mm Fan (R9-NBC-XSLI-GP): Computers & Accessories)
The system is propped up with extra rubber feet to give extra breathing room
I am running a non volt modded SL7 bios
I am running Prema Mod v1.0.4 for the bios
I am running 314.22 nVidia drivers
MWO is running on 1080P, high settings

I don't get it. I LOVE the laptop, but even with maxed fans, it keeps heading for self destruction. I have some IC7 paste, but from reading, it isn't any better than what i already have... *sigh*. Any advice?

when was the last time you cleaned the vents and fans out with compressed air as this is one of the biggest problems for raised temps.
where do you live and whats the ambient room temps.
what sort of temps are you getting for general use which uses the HD4000
have you contacted your supplier support yet or does volt and bios mods affect your warranty (no idea as never changed mine).

Cleaned the vents last night, no change. Ambient temps were mentioned (74F).

Cant say about the HD4000, never cared to use it. Idle though, the GPU tends to fluctuate between 40-50C doing nothing.

Care to check some other game for temps? Just did a quick google and MWO does seem to cause some people to run pretty high temps while "idling" in the lobby,

I guess i can see if i have anything else around.. not much else i play right now though.

BTW, the 40-50 idle temps weren't in the game, those are on the internet (Firefox). I idle around 55-65 in the game..

Are you running an external monitor by chance? I know mine ran much higher when doing so.

while just brousing my temps are
    gpu 43c
    core1 39c
    core2 38c
    core3 46c
    core4 37c

Not sure what you are on about.. on gaming, with full fans, I still hit 90 on the gpu, which I know is bad. Any other actual advice?

90 is threshold. over 90 is bad and it will start throttling.

this is an old thread from a few years ago.
best thing is contack your supplier and rma it to get checked.

Could be a faulty heatpipe. Did you happen to notice any apparent damage to it? And was the heat sink reseated properly? As the saying goes: the little things matter. ;)
