Any vantage runs coming? I wish we could just kill 06' already, Vantage is becoming dated itself with the introduction of tesselation and DX11.

    TY sir, very nice temps.

Maybe someone can tell him how to turn off physX. I am very curious to see how much CPU power is being thrown out of that 980 minus phsyx inflation.

Here's some of my benchmarks, guys.

    -i7-930 2.8GHz
    -GTX 480M 2GB
    -80GB Intel G2 + 500GB secondary
    -W7 Pro 64-bit

    --------------
    Game benchmarks:
    Shattered Horizon
1920x1200 resolution, balanced settings, ambient occlusion on
    Min: 19
    Max: 41
    Avg: 30

    Left 4 Dead 2
1920x1200 resolution, maximum settings, 16x QSAA, 16x AF
    Min: 49
    Max: 111
    Avg: 72

    Heaven Benchmark v2.1
1920x1200 resolution, maximum settings, 4x AF, normal Tessellation
    Min: 12.3
    Max: 40.8
    Avg: 20.6

    -------------------
    Overclocking

I did some overclocking and got the Heaven Benchmark up to 22.9 FPS, so a 10% increase.

    Default:
    425/1200/850

    OC:
    471/1330/942

I kept the ratio between the shader and memory clocks the same. I am going to try and gun the shader and memory clocks separately, I may be able to get better benchmark results. The shader clock is probably the most important.

    -------------------
Gonzalez - post some wPrime 1.55. Does your notebook have four fans or three? I took the access panel off of my review NP9285 and it only has three fans (though there are four slots). I am thinking that the 980X gets an extra fan; the fan spot left empty on mine was right behind the CPU.
    ------

My review is finished and going up soon. :)

It's interesting how the NP8850 is getting 1500 more GPU marks. Perhaps the D900F is stutterig in Vantage with stock drivers?

    Quadzilla,

How did your RM 5870 haver a higher frame rate than the 480M GTX? Is your RM 5870 Overclocked?

Just curious, because if the 5870 is pulling the same scores as the 480M then I will just get the 5870 my self.

he's card is overclocked but if you look close to the benchmarks the performance gain on the 480 compared to the 5870 is minimum i will say 5%
and the $600 dollars difference on price is maximum :D

i never try the stock drivers because they was not working when i install them

    ahh thanks for the clarification.

I am thinking of pulling the 280M out of my D900F and buying the 5870, then selling my 280M on ebay or here.

I am using 257.07, the stock drivers that came with the system. Maybe install those and see how they run?

Also does your system have four fans or three? I think the 980X has an additional CPU fan.

    @ Witcher,
What's the room temp during those tests?
Are you using a cooler pad?
Another question, did you replace the stock paste and pads?

He has only used paste on the CPU so far and the GPU still has the factory stuff ...

Since the GPU is already running cool there was no need to touch it YET :)...

it is about the same but the 480 seems to be a good overclocker because of the low core clock if i find the way to mess with voltage i can overclock at least 100 more on the core :)

Yeah with some more voltage it will make that card come alive seeing that the voltage is .85 lol... That thing is SERIOUSLY undervolted... The temps are amazing on that card so there should be plenty of headroom ...

It seems that the temp of the 480M is below 80C under load across the board from every single bench we've seen, very big OC headroom IMO.

The temps are impressive for the core. I'd be curious to know if the GDDR 5 runs as hot as the 5870M or not. Since you are only seeing core temps it may not be showing the whole picture. Have you tried any nvidia bios editors to raise the voltage?

I'm a little worried about the temps still. We know that the hottest part of the 5870 is memory (you can seldom reach 80C on the core). What if the sensors only show us the core temp? It's very difficult to believe that 2GB GDDR5 will stay ~70C during Vantage. Even my 4870's with GDDR3 get past that mark.
Dunno. I hope, Nvidia didn't play a nasty trick here.

I asked him to open HWinfo to check on the mem temps so we will probably hear something tomorrow about the mem temps...

I dont know if HWinfo can read the Nvidia mem temps or not though ?...

I'm afraid there's no sensor on the mem.
In fact, I'm sure that Nvidia played that trick with 280's. I had both 280's and 4870's in the same system and while the Nvidia sensors reported lower temps (ATI mem temp was always higher), the keyboard on my R1 would heat up significantly stronger with the Green's.
That's my subjective observation, so take it with a grain of salt.
