Oh man, I was one-click away from that thing called an XPS 1710..and then the clouds parted..and I beheld the awesome-ness of the 5790.

Then I agonized over waiting for the 8700GT but realized the 8800GTX is the real pie in the sky...so I'll purchase now and wait for the upgrade in roughly 6 months. If the 8800 upgrade isnt possible, the 8700 will be.

So I have narrowed down the resellers to Powernotebooks, Xoticpc or PCtorque..that final decision is almost settled. Im actually down to nitpicking shipping options...

Now my hangup is that I notice alot of folks arent upgrading the CPU to 2.4GHz or Ram to 4G.
So my concern is...are my upgraded options overkill?

    Any thoughts?

You won't notice a big difference from the T7700 to the T7200 or T7300. The big jump is from the T7100 to the T7200 with the two-fold increase on cache memory. You should feel more than content with your configuration if it were to have a T7200 or T7300 (depending on what the reseller is offering). You're probably better off spending that money on some cool accessories like headphones and a gaming mouse + mousepad.

2GB of RAM should be ideal for the next few years. Of course, if you have Vista 64-bit, more RAM couldn't hurt. But it's far from necessary.

I got the T7500 (2.2GHz) and 4GB of RAM. I figured it certainly couldn't hurt.

And I went with XoticPC, because the price between it and Powernotebooks was the same, shipping was the same cost, the only difference was XoticPC is giving a 1GB USB pen drive with it. My decision was entirely based on that little flash drive that I probably won't use.

Did you purchase any warranty or any coverage at all?

Call me crazy but I'm figuring in +200 for No Dead Pixels and +299 for the Sager 3 year Warranty.

Everytime I didnt get a warranty, I have regretted it.

I was thinking that the 3 year complete coverage by Xotic PC would be more than enough coverage for only $150. I was seeing what people thought about warranties as a whole. Some say not worth it, some say better get it or regret it. As far as the dead pixel goes, most sagers are checked for that right before they leave (xoticpc specific?). About 80%+ of all sagers are released with zero dead pixels.

What a great line that is! It's a good thing you saw the NP5790 in time.
I'd definitely get the 3-year warranty but the dead pixel . . I can't say I would recommend that. Sager ships the vast majority of their display pixel perfect (80-some% as posted) and they have a 30-day return window and you can get a full refund minus shipping. If your computer does happen to come with a dead pixel then you can return it and get a new one,.

Then the question is..what is the difference between the XoticPC 3 year warranty and the Sager 3 Year warranty?

Our warranty provides Labor Coverage for 3 Years were Sager provides a standard 1 Year Parts/Labor Warranty on the machine. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions :)

one click from an xps huh?? congratulations :)

I got the 2.4GHz, but I'm going to wait until prices drop some more on RAM before I go for an upgrade...
