Is this normal? i just bought the laptop 3 months ago.. does it wear 10% per 3 months? so basically it will only last 2.5 years at this rate?

90% of the time i use the ac adapter.

im using batterybar pro and hwmonitor to check the wear.

not sure about the lowered bat life, because i rarely use the battery.

Do you play games with the battery in and the power supply connected?

Where are you getting battery wear numbers? Software tools tend to be horrifically inaccurate. Are you actually noticing any shortened battery life?

The battery itself in these units have only a one year warranty no matter how long your parts warranty is. Of course you should check with your reseller regarding your warranty.

Batteries should last more than a couple of years but they are certainly not the longest lasting part in your machine.

you can use some software to keep the battery at 50-80% charge intead of 100% to increase it's life.. still heat is your main enemy, so just use the pc inside your freezer or something..

meh who needs a battery anyway on this beasts... they eat it up so fast when you push them above average load xD

in 3 years i'll be finishing college and by them i'll want not one but 2 new PC's or whatever we're using by then (tablets, smartphhones, smartwhaches, wth) ahahah

Do you know the name of the software AK-XS? Might be interested in trying it out, since I leave my battery in all the time.

I've had my 5797 since summer 09 and the wear level is only 6.1%, I never use it on battery and always have it plugged in AC (with battery installed)

You can find some guidelines for lithium ion battery usage here :
Chapter 10: Getting the Most from your Batteries
Most of it is common sense, but just a refresher. And for the record, every battery I have personally owned has shown similar degradation. I couldn't pin point exact numbers, but after 2.5 yrs its defiantly time for a new battery, at least one that holds a decent charge.

You can download Battery Eater here : Battery Eater (notebook benchmark tool) - Downloads and let it run down your 100% charge battery today, document the time... then a month from now, do it again, and compare. If most metrics are the same it could be a good indication of actual battery ware.
