Well, the topic says it all :D
I need a 100% waterproof backpack (or carrying case, but I prefer a backpack) for my laptop. It needs to be 100% waterproof cause I intend to take it with me on my motorbike. :)
    Any ideas?
I just got myself a backpack at a local retailer, but I doubt it's waterproof. I'll probably return it, so I'm looking for another one :)

Thx in advance for any advice :)

What about buying a nice one from REI or something and then treating it with silicone spray (on the outside). It's what I do for my backpacking gear.

I don't think you'll be able to find a water proof backpack...at least not a stylish one or one that isn't $200.

    What you could do though........

Buy a regular backpack you like/is comfortable/big enough but not huge, then.......buy some waterproof spray (like what you buy in a can for shoes) treat the backpack with it.

For added protection you could get a sleeve for the notebook and treat it too, or find a nice rubber type bag or sleeve....it may be easier to find a waterproof sleeve for the notebook.

    Good Luck

*Edit....damn I made my post too long and got beat to the punch :p

it doesn't need to be a laptop bag per se :)
but, ordering from a site to find out it is't suitable for a 17" laptop is't what I'm looking for :p ... otherwise i think i could have found something @ waterproofstore :)
as for computerbags.com: i don't see any backpacks, which is a shame of course, as that is what i am primeraly looking for :) ... only if i can't find a decent oe, i might consider a waterproof case :)
but thx for the tips phil :)

also thx 2 kozi and mit, for your suggestion. however, I'm not all that confident a spray will protect it enough (you have to think a few hours in pretty heavy rain, going at speeds from 30 km/h to 120+ km/h (no idea how much that is in mph :p)

    more ideas are welcome :)

    hehe
yeah, i wouldn't call my lapie garbage ... at least not for the next 2 to 3 years :p (preferably even longer :D)

as for the bag itself, i might have found one:
    http://store.thewaterproofstore.com/animasblk.html
though it doesn't have to be fully submersible (i think), it won't hurt that it is :D (like I said, a few hours on a motorbike in pouring rain really does require a full waterproof bag)
also, it seems to be the only bag with somewhat proper dimensions (room for notebook + some extra space) without being overly large (like http://store.thewaterproofstore.com/kodiak.html for example :p)

will have to think about it though .. maybe see if i can find a reseller in Belgium for it :)
thx for all the tips folks :)

This is the MEC Darwin 2 laptop bagpack. Read the reviews on the site for more info. I saw it in person and it looked very nice and functional (suspended laptop sleeve in the middle of the bagpack, looked quite secure for a laptop). It seems like it would withstand light rain by itself (zippers are the shielded type) but it also has a separate rain cover built-in, attached within a sleeve at the bottom.

Not sure if it'll fit a 17-incher though, better call/ask before you commit to a purchase.

    2 bad it's too small
    M570RU/NP5790 = 39,7 x 28,4 x 4,4 cm (or 15,6299 x 11,1811 x 1,7323 inch)

Aww, you're right, I just saw the measurements. 1.7cm and 0.4cm too small xD

I think it might still fit to be honest, the laptop sleeve is closed via a large velcro pad that could potentially allow you a few centimeters leeway.

But if you can't test it out in person, probably best to err on the side of caution and go with something else. Good luck with your search! :)

    Thx :)
I'm going to return the backpack I've got now this weekend. Then I'll probably order the one I mentioned earlier (unless someone comes up with another idea :p)

Thx 2 all for the ideas :)
