Updated my Force Drivers to 158 (from the 94 stock) and overclocked a bit :)

    Full Pic

I can't wait till the X6900 is released and we get our 8800's!!

Edit: For specifics I went from the stock 94.24 Forceware to Nvodngov 215822 drivers.

Overclocking: I went from the stock 575 Core to 646 Core and 700 Memory to 728 Memory.

Temps stayed within tolerance and I run with a Zalman ZM-NC-1000 cooler and Max Fans running on my D901C.

You're insane. :) And so are those scores. Congratulations, this is the first time I have seen the 10k mark broken in 3DMark06 on a notebook. And I believe this is the only notebook that can do it.

No heat issues, I keep it on the Zalman stand and follow Gophn's advice no issues so far. I've had the notebook about a month now :) and I love it!

Now, synthetic benchmarks are cool and all but I'm dying to know real life FPS scores, especially in Medieval II: Total War if you have it. :)

I don't have Medieval II yet! I'll probably pick it up soon if it's a good game. Mostly been playing BF2 and BF2142 lately.

I spent months trying to decide on what laptop (DTR) to buy. I have finally found a sytem that I get excited about. With the quality down to the almost certain upgradability to the next high end DX10 card (8800). You will not be disappionted with your future purchase. :)

One thing with the specs of your future machine change the 8700 to a 8800. The E6850 wont be released until the end of 07.

:p I'm sure with a lil overclocking of my own and setting my aircon on high and with a notebook cooler the m9750 can reach those scores... atm I'm reaching 9.2k with the GTX's at 625/800

What temps are you getting with that kind of an overclock?

It must be high. Hope you wont over heat that thing. :)

The Clevo is built for handling heat... with the built-in Fan Speed Toggle (Fn+1) and the massive quad fan/heatpipe system.

almost 87 OC'ed in an airconditioned room (set to normal room temp - 21C), which is pretty hot, I don't actually know what the limits of the 7950GTX are (I'm getting around 75C under load in a hot room) so unless I can get into one of those giant food fridges I won't OC it anymore untill I find out the limits of the 7950 GTX- which I don't want to find out for myself lol

The threshold/critical temp for most mobile Nvidia cards is 92-95C degrees.

When it hits that temp, you will see a massive slowdown on any 3D application because the card will force a downclock... in order to cool itself down to around 80-85C degrees.

IMHO I don't think your system will get over the 10k mark. Your processor is not going to come close to the X6800, that is where the difference will be. Plus your not going to be able to push the 7950's much more than your current OC. to get another 800+ in your 3dmark.

    Still a nice score tho.

I agree with CRF in that the mobile CPU just cant beat a desktop Extreme.

STILL, I think Phritz has the record for highest 3DM'06 score using ALL MOBILE PARTS. Congrats.

Meh, some people would still count the Clevo D900C as a laptop :/, but yeah... the whole mobile parts bit is true... But I bet JamesKirstyLou (same config as mine but with a 2.33GHz) could get 9.5k at high overclocks

I may or may not OC my (see sig) laptop when it arrives, just to see how high I can push it, then immediately disable OC'ing so I don't kill its lifespan. I really need this thing to last for a bunch of years, and with the money I'm spending, idk if its worth voiding your warranty to see if you can win the 'my **** is bigger than yours' of laptop performance. Not to mention, unless you get the x6800, you won't be in the ballpark of the highest scorers.

Any clue if RAID-0 would have produced a higher score rather than RAID-5?

I hear that the 160's at 7.2k are the fastest around, so thats why I went for them for my gaming drives. Wu's 200gb ones might be faster due to info density. Any input on that?

Congrats all around on the scores though. Its gotta be the first factory notebook to ever get 10k+. And likely will be until the SLI notebook for m88's come out, IF they ever come out...

Using a E6700 and SLi, overclock at 624/790, and running NGO driver, hit 9808 on 3d Mark06. Waiting for the X6900.

For daily use, run at 624/734. With a Laptop cooler and fans on high the temps stay low.

I've got to call bull on this one. The unit Chaz reviewed got 7,308 3DMark06. My laptop gets 9,399 3DMark06 stock. There is no way in hades your 2.0Ghz CPU (Which is below the reviewed 2.33Ghz CPU) and SLI is going to get over 2,000 more points just from overclocking it, unless you plan on nitrogen cooling the unit.

    It was free :)

Well actually I had to sit through a week of motivation training to get it. I'm a captain on a ship (hence why I went with this for the power and portability, I only have to move it once per month!) The price of the laptop was about $5k. I wasn't originally planning on taking the training class but decided to take it to pay for the laptop. See, I was motivated :)

Master Wu, is the 901C/9260 the big heavy ugly box people say it is? At 12lbs, I wouldn't exactly call it perfect portability. But dang, breaking the 10k barrier, that's just INSANE!!!

Beauty is the eye of the beholder. :) All depends on what you want it to do. I don't care if it looks pretty or not. (It looks fine to me!) What matters is do the games that I play look pretty at 1920x1200 resolution with good frame rates :)...and yes Virginia, they do.

I have USB ports everywhere, you're limited to one side :p

The Alienware and the Clevo can both be described as ugly - the Alienware is just a lot more far out and if you're conservative the Sager would be better... (but its 4lbs heavier, ohhh.. the decisions, the decisions....)

If the m9750 had come out with a Santa Rosa platform Phritz, I would have gone with it. But unfortunatley it didn't :( It's a nice portable machine. SLI and notebooks needs to be more of a mainstream item and not one for just 17"ers. I know, I know..space requirements etc.

Ha, what would be the perfect notebook? Just heavy enough not to blow away in a stiff wind, 24-inch display, two quad core CPUs, 16 GiB RAM, four GPUs in SLI, 4 HDs in a raid 10? Did I leave anything out of my improbability notebook?

I have to say, I've only spent an hour or two with my NP5790 so far because of work, but I'm pleasantly surprised so far. The best notebooks available aren't bad.

Not to mention the $1000 in RAM upgrade to 4GB, unless you install an aftermarket one in yourself and run the risk of arguing with them about warranty issue. I tell ya, Gophn and a whole lot of peeps here have been telling me that installing in an aftermarket RAM does not void Alienware's warranty, but 4 different sales rep I've chatted with have told me that it does. When I pointed out to them what have been told to me by the most knowledgeable folks at NotebookReview.com, I was quickly referred to technical support. And after being on hold with technical support for way too long, 20-30 minutes on 3 different occasions, I gave up. No way in H-E..double hockey pucks am I going to pay $1000 bucks for 4GB of RAM.

    Well, Chaz got Wonky scores:

(I know thats the low res score, the native res score is the 1920x1200 res)

The Reviewers of PC Mag rarely gets to work with boutique brand notebooks... let alone know how to benchmark correctly (optimizing settings, custom drivers, etc..)

They just know how to review the basic stuff (looks, power, smell, etc...)

That score of 8325 for the m9750 is at 1024x768 res...I can hit 12k at that resolution. Chaz ran the progam at 1280 x 1024 which is the default. Believe it or not but the extra .60 x 2 from the CPU + the 400Mhz extra FSB does make a difference. When the X6900's are released there will be a .87 Ghz x 2 difference.

    I.e. 3DMark06 @ 1280 x 1024 m9750 = 7k D901C = 9k
    3DMark06 @ 1024 x 768 m9750 = 8k D901C = 12k

What it amounts to is that with SLI your CPU is bottlenecking the performance. You will see this when and if they release 8800's for both laptops. With the 8800's that .87 Ghz x 2 difference will become more apparent. For sheer performance the D901C is king...for now.

I just got the laptop in my sig this afternoon, and I made sure to 3dM'06 it right out of the box.
