Well i was having the same problem as most on here with BSOD , but on a p370em with Dual CF 7970m.
Kept getting BSOD on start up , or shortly after.
My last stable drive was 12.8 WHQL, so i figured using the atikmpag/atikmday.sys files from them could be used , along with the newest 12.11 beta.
So here is what stopped mine - I make no guarantee it will work for you, and if you are not confident with changing stuff , PLEASE do not do it - and make sure you back up any important files you do.
So do the following at your own risk - but it worked for me , 3 days no crashes , 24/7 use and many restarts.
0) No need to uninstall anything
1) Backed up C: Windows / System 32 / Drivers / atikmdag/atikmpag.sys files - moved/ saved them to a new folder on desktop
2) Copied 12.8 atikmdag/atikmpag.sys in to the above place , AFTER moving the 12.11 ones to the new folder on desktop (you will need to download 12.8 drivers and uppack- they usually unpack to C/AMD
3) Renamed the files atikmdag/mpag.sys files to atikmdag.sy_ , so they would not interfere with any system processes or get accidently deleted
4) Restarted the PC - the computer came up with an error saying no ccc / graphics driver - this is ok
5) Reinstalled , CUSTOM, but all packages of the 12.11 beta again - no uninstall or driver sweeper, just installed 12.11 again, all the elements.
6) Restarted the machine
7) No BSOD since then, but with the performance on every game i have tried so far (MOHW, GW2. Crysis 2, 3DMARK11 etc) of the new 12.11 drivers, but with stability of 12.8 drivers.
This may not be the ideal solution but it is currently working perfectly from me. As i said, i am no expert in this, but doing this has definately solved my problem on my clevo/sager p370em.
I just took the logic that if you used the old stable 12.8 atikmdag.sys files , along with installing
Might be worth trying for anyone that wants the performance of the 12.11 drivers but just cant get rid of those pesky BSOD

sorry i dont understand. on step 5, the atikmdag/atikmpag.sys files from reinstallation of 12.11 beta will cover the old one from 12.8?
-
Yes i mean, once you have copied the 12.8 files to system, then reinstall 12.11 beta drivers, and it fixes any errors.
-
thanks for the posting although mine is a p150em I'll give it a try.(fingers crossed)
-
-
Maybe i am interpreting this wrongly, but you mainly recommend installing the 12.11 beta on top of existing drivers?
I, as many, have not yet installed the 12.11 beta out of fear for BSODs...
I own a P150EM, intel stock drivers and CCC 12.8, works great!
To install 12.11 beta i should just download it and install it then? no uninstalls and ?
thanks for the post btw
cheers

Which atikmdag/mpag.sys should I rename(step 3)- the new ones or the one backed up on the desktop??
Edit : where are the atikmdag/mpag.sys located in the 12.8 unpacked folder located, I cannot seem to find them, if possble you could upload them.
This idea actually has something into it, every BSOD is coased by te atikmpag.sys file.. -
renaming the files on desktop is meaningless. renaming the files in system32 also meaningless. since the last step is to reinstall 12.11beta, the atikmpag/atikmday.sys files from 12.11 beta will be copy to system32 and will be used anyway. these steps are very funny.
-
ok i have found atikmpag.sy_ and atikmday.sy_ in the install package, you mean i should replace these 2 files from 12.8 to 12.11beta?
-
Youp littlecx I also found only those two and replaced them and than rename to sys. Its weird but first reboot and it seems to work
I have a 23 monitor plugged in and every time i sterted plugged in throught HDMI it bsod. when I restarted and unplug the hdmi it was ok, but stil sometime bsod. it also bsoed right away when I overcocked throught afterburner while running on the external monitor.
After this it actually worked and I could even overcock without crashink on the external monitor. I know it doesant make no sens as the files are overwrited but somehow it work. Hope it wont change on the next boot. -
ok i followed the steps. so now i have atikmdag/atikmpag.sys from 12.11beta and renamed atikmdag/atikmpag.sy_ from 12.8. total 4 files in the system32/driver folder, right? or should I rename back atikmdag/atikmpag.sy_ to atikmdag/atikmpag.sys and replace the ones from 12.11 beta?
-
update: now still have BSOD, but it is more controlled BSOD. before it was continously looping BSOD restart BSDO restart BSOD restart BSOD.....now can reboot without problem after BSDO. However, when i open afterburner without open kombustor first, it still shows the core and mem clock. when i set and appply, it BSOD immediately. if i open kombustor, no BSDO and it can set the parameter as normal

I couldn't really follow the steps in the original post, but here's how I did it and it seemed to remove the BSOD (please do this at your own risk!)
1) On a stable driver installation (12.9 for me), go to Windows/system32/drivers and backup atikmpag.sys and atikmdag.sys to a safe location.
2) Install 12.11 on top of 12.9, and on reboot go into safe mode.
3) Just in case, I backed up atikmpag.sys and atikmdag.sys from system32/drivers again in case things went wrong.
4) Replace atikmpag.sys and atikmdag.sys in system32/drivers with the backed up ones from step 1.
5) Reboot to normal mode and you're done.
I've restarted my laptop 3 times and no BSODs yet.I tried a few DX11 games and they seem to run with the improved performance (screen tearing problems I had are now gone as well.
I have no idea what the consequences are of replacing these two files though, my guess is as good as anyone's. For now, I'm happy I can run my games with improved performance and without BSODs. If I get any weird errors or crashes I'll report to this thread. -
-
I've also did it and have no problems till now. did around 7 reboots all were fine.
I used the stock drivers for my atikmpag.sys/atikmdag.sys.
But one problem is upon first boot, I ran afterburner and as soon as I modified the clocks, I got a BSOD. I'm scared to open afterburner now.
I'm fine gaming with stock clocks so thank you pijeon for sharing this -
Thanks guys. So far so good with replacing those 2 files from stock driver. Didn't even install the newer intel driver either. Will update if BSOD returns but this seems to be working.
Edit: Btw, Skyrim seems to run good without the weird flashy glitch in the outside world with these 2 files replaced. -
I'm sure this is very clever and all, but ...... For those with the p150em at least, I think there is an easier way. If you are not 100% dependent on the absolute newest hd 4000 drivers, install 12.11 beta over the stock drivers from clevo. Then uninstall the intel hd 4000 driver and install the stock one(8.951.6.0) dating back to 29.03.12. The only stable match I have found so far.....
Until the official release I don't see the point in trying to makeshift anything... -
This works great for me, no BSODs at all. I even had BSODs with 12.11 drivers on a clean install of Windows 7, so this is fantastic. I'm running the 9.17.10.2792 Intel drivers, with the 12.11beta4 and the two files from the 12.9 beta (which was rock solid for me). I used 3dmark11 to verify that my score didn't suffer as a result of replacing those two files, and it didn't (my score is 6555).
-
i am using the clevo stock files and my 3dmark11 is around 100 points lower...

I am just trying to help people in a simple way ( For those who are not geniuses or those who just want a working solution). There was another post on the main page of the sager/clevo forum where someone just wanted an easy way to install. I posted to make people aware that my way DOES work, and it is EASY. If the older hd 4000 driver gives me a 100p drop in 3dmark, well ....... It could be the old intel driver, but I still get great performance
Not discrediting your method -
If this is an issue, go ahead and fill out a complaint form then.
-
Hey, it's not my method but it works for me so I'm grateful for whoever came up with it. So far so good still. Played bunch games with better performance and haven't had a single BSOD. -
Thank you pijeon1978, my BSOD is now fixed.
+ Rep -
Doing it like I posted has worked for people with p150em. So far no one has reported it to not work. A lot of people would benefit, so its not like I'm posting for my own pleasure.
-
Glad it has helped some of you guys - I posted this fix that i found after trying everything, in the hope some people would get some benefit.
Another thing to help with BSOD on 12.11 at start up , would be typing msconfig in to run, then unchecking any unncessary "BLOAT" ware on start up, anything that uses atikpag.sys etc - Leave all of the microsoft / intel and tools for your laptop, but make sure steam, adobe all those things are not booting up with windows.
That way, when you open up a 3rd party application, if it BSOD's , then at least you have a better idea of whats causing it.
Again, please don't do this unless you really know what you are doing, as i do not want anyone to end up with laptops that don't start.

Sorry, have to edit my post, non of the mentioned steps are of any use, still BSODing.....
cheers

Can someone please explain what the point of the original steps are? When you reinstall 12.11 you system is just going to use the 12.11 atikmpag/atikmday.sys files. The 12.8 files with .sy_ won't be used and will just sit there. These steps are literally just telling you to reinstall 12.11, so what is the point?
-
Sy_ rename sys you must use the command expand
-
Sorry I am not sure what you mean by that. The step says to rename to .sy_. What is strange is that there is no mention of whether to rename the 12.8 files or the 12.11 ones on the desktop .sy_.
-
Yeah, the TC's steps were a bit confusing. The basic idea is to replace these 2 files with the 12.8 version. What I did...
Since I'm already on the stock sager driver, I went ahead and go to the C:/Windows/System 32/Drivers/ and made a copy of atikmdag.sys and atikmpag.sys files to my desktop.
Install 12.11 beta 4
Copy the 2 files back to C:/Windows/System 32/Drivers/ and replace the ones in there. (if you want to be safe, move these 2 files to somewhere else first so you have a backup)
I didn't install the intel driver or anything. Just install 12.11 beta 4 over the stock driver.
If you are not on the stock driver, I guess you can uninstall whatever the driver you are on and install the stock back on first then copy those 2 files.
Hope this helps. -
Well, easy enough but still doesn't get rid of my BSOD's , so would have to call that a failure then. I didn't have 1 bsod until this BETA update and so far I haven't seen 1 method that works. This method didn't do it for me either, so ....

This works fine installing over 12.9, BSOD on startup. Replaced the files and then no BSODs at all! 3dmark11 score was quite impressive, but I'm still waiting for that fix for DX9 games
-
but, it crashes ccc now :/ -
-
-
This works but I can't monitor temperature anymore. Anyone having the same issue?
-
My fix for BSOD is really quite simple. If my laptop is unplugged, I can boot into windows fine and have yet to BSOD. If it's plugged in, it will BSOD. Not sure if that'd work for anyone else.
-
-
Has anyone gotten to try the Beta7 drivers yet? I have my card arriving today and i was really wondering what version i should install.
-
-
i just log in to thx op for this fix its works with me
my card is 5650M test it with beta 4 + 11 & works thx god finally
thx you pijeon1978 again
