I bought a new LCD for my laptop that claims to do 120hz refresh rates - a Samsung Syncmaster 2233rz, but for the life of me I can't get my geforce 9800m to spit out that refresh rate. I've tried beta drivers, using powerstrip to manually force the rate, everything.

Is 120hz @ 1680x1050 just impossible for the mobile version of the 9800 to do? Theoretically, I have been told all 8, 9, and 10 series Geforce cards should be able to do it...

I have a 1080p 120hz LCD, and I too, never figured out how to recieve 120hz refresh rate. Considering I can't game at that FPS it was never a concern to me. You'd need a true gaming desktop, and the only reason for 120hz is 3D really.

The real value in having a 120hz display is for movies, to display them at native 24p. Obviously only Blu-Ray is native 1080p, and I don't even have a Blu-Ray player...but the effect can still be seen with DVDs. It eliminates judder, created from the 3:2 pulldown the 60hz screen is limited to. Judder can easily spotted when the camera pans. Also, these 120hz TV's have some neat motion blur techniques, so you can enjoy a healthy dose of motion sickness...

My 280M can output native 24p. It recognizes the TV properly. There's just no way of getting 120hz.

Same here, gave up from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=418186

I was attempting to run my CRT at anything greater than 85Hz and it just doesn't seem possible... a limitation of the 9800/260 onboard DAC perhaps. Strangely, a member with the 280M reported being able to do 120Hz, so anothergeek, there may be a ray of hope for you.
