I suspect the 13.1 WHQL will just be MS Certified 12.11 Beta 11.

I can't wait for the betas. AMD admitted the current drivers for GCN are flawed for how the memory controller functions. They found improvements in speed and frame latency, and promised to rush these out quick. That's what I'm hoping they are.

Won't the WHQL mean that those who are fine using Clevo's latest now are still better off? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't really know what you mean. Even if Clevo's current release is WHQL certified (I will ask Clevo about this), 13.1 WHQL will still be the latest certified driver, likely making it the best available driver when it comes out. We will see though, as you never know if something gets screwed up that negatively affects mobile users.

    ...

i installed the latest 12.11 beta drivers directly related to posts in this thread.
it's so hard to take a look and type a answer, then don't direct your post at me things will get on topic when the driver is released.

are you in here expecting to hear peoples dreams of what might be, on a future driver...?

i think 13.1 will be the best thing to ever happen to 7970 owners!

You're in a news topic asking if drivers unrelated to the news were installed correctly when there are literally MULTIPLE OTHER TOPICS discussing said drivers.

Tell me again, how do I know you're in the wrong thread?

on the left side was the 3d mark 11 screen shot. the result: P5276, 3dmark result: P15148
0 core clock and 0 memory clock don't seem right... was wondering what might cause that.

@ srikar my understanding of a forum is people posting their opinions and questions. the tangents that come from a single topic result in informative discussion on the subject. i asked about the preceding driver to the 13.1... which again has not come out yet, what do you want people to say in here? i guess arguing about posts, is on topic.

I wonder if that will finally fix DCS performance. I recently switched to the 680m and got 50% better FPS (in a controlled test) on low settings in DCS out of the box. After tweaks it went up to 70% better FPS on the 680m, and going from low settingsto maximum I only dropped 2-5FPS on the NVIDIA card. If someone has DCS and 7970m installed please check 13.1 WHQL performance (preferably at low settings) :p I'm really curious.

This stuff DCS - Digital Combat Simulator (various modules which connect via DCS World, simulator level for most aircraft)

If you wanted to check FPS before and after 13.1 WHQL, just download DCS World for free (it has a free Su25T simplified playable aircraft) , go to low settings, and create some recording which you can get back to, to check/compare. :)

or you could just record the FPS in something like Unigine Heaven or 3Dmark Vantage and test both drivers out that way, some games also have built in benchmarks like Sleeping Dogs or Metro 2033.

i wouldnt put too much hope into the 13.1 whql either, id suspect the 12.11 beta11 with ms certificate, with a few very minor changes at best. ill be rather looking out for the 13.1 betas as hulawafu already stated :)

No you can't. You need to set up a control. You're mixing two entirely different topics. The topic here is setting up a DCS control recording and settings to test the same thing on different cards.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame MS here, remember that it's a back and forth process of MS trying to approve, MS rejecting, then AMD fixing and rinse and repeat. If there were no issues in AMD's submission I'm sure it would be quicker. :)

I don't think that is the case. AMD performs certain tests determined by MS, and then sends the result logs to MS for approval. Since the certification is not free, I don't think AMD would send the drivers unless they were sure they would pass the examination. It is all just for the WHQL stamp, not for any improvements.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but will 13.1 also resolve the enduro issues? I am still having trouble with getting the 12.11 beta drivers to work properly. Hoping this will help with that and make it easier.

Until it's actually released it's hard to tell. That's the hope that most are having, but it's expected that some of the issues will only be beginning to be addressed in the new beta drivers that are to be released.

Oh right yes. Yet the submissions can be performed incorrectly or MS can actually do some in-house checks as well. We just don't 100% know the details, but lets go with blaming MS, it's a popular route. :D

The Enduro issue was supposed to have been resolved with the 12.11 Enduro Performance beta driver. 13.1 will likely have the same fixes from that.

The upcoming betas are not Enduro related, but one could help. The first beta will have driver adjustments for specific games that Tech Report highlighted. AMD focuses on publicity and marketing first, cause they are bums.

The next one that actually matters will have the memory management software part of the driver rewritten for GCN. It's taken AMD over a year to decide writing new drivers for new architecture is a good idea. Brilliant. Hopefully that will help also with Enduro.

Also on Guru3D, someone posted about Pci Bus drivers. If you want, just to make sure, go to Device Manager, and under System Devices, you should see Pci Bus. You can update the drivers on those with the INF in "C:\AMD\Support\12-10_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4\Packages\Dr ivers\amdkmpfd". Obviously replace the 12-10 with the latest drivers you have.

Also 13.1 WHQL are expected to have improvements for Far Cry 3, because it takes over 2 months for AMD and Ubisoft to provide functioning drivers for their AMD Gaming Evolved title.
