    Hey,

I have narrowed down my *must have* features for my next laptop to be the following:

    • 15.6" to 16.1" display (could maybe push 17.3" if the laptop is below 3 kg)
    • Upgradeable LGA1151 Desktop CPU (65W TDP)
    • DisplayPort 1.4
The only two SKUs I have found so far are NB50TA and NB70TA. Do you have any links to models from resellers featuring these chassis? If you know of any other Clevo SKUs with corresponding reseller models, I would love to hear from you!

    Thank you,

    Florent

Those are the only two that would match up to your needs.

OK. Thank you for confirming. Does Sager (or any other reseller) have any models with these SKUs?

I would also like to know if the GPU is upgradeable with these models. Thanks.

No, only the the full power CPU series has MXM modules.

OK. Thanks again @Meaker@Sager. Do you know if the NB60TA also has DisplayPort 1.4?

Hmm, maybe I should opt for something else seeing that the IO of these laptops is quite mediocre according to reviewers.

Any recommendations for similarily specced laptops with 35W T-series CPUs instead?

That could be an option, but I really do not need as much storage expandibility, making the laptop much heavier and bulkier than I need.

    ---

I will be plugging in a 5120*1440 display capable of 120 Hz refresh rates into my laptop. I won't be gaming but will I notice a difference if I use DisplayPort 1.4 as opposed to DP 1.3/HDMI 2.0? Can a mobile GTX 1650 (for example) even support 120 FPS while performing mundane tasks on Windows ( e.g. coding, writing in word, producing music)?

Yes, even integrated graphics can do high refresh rate 2d tasks at higher resolutions.

    That's awesome to know!

Another question: are there any Clevo laptops that have above average IO (keyboard, trackpad, etc.)? Based on my research, it looks like most of the Clevo chassis have subpar IO, compared to OEM ones from the likes of Dell, Lenovo, etc.

I would argue that all Clevo chassis have above average keyboards. After all, Clevo is a partner of Chicony who is the biggest keyboard vendor in the world, supplying all these other guys. We never had a review where the keyboard was explicitly critizized in terms of haptics (travel distance, actuaction force) or reliability.

Touchpads are a different story. Generally speaking: the higher the overall value (performance) of the laptop, the more premium the Touchpad will be. This applies to size, smoothness and input latency.
Recent exceptions are metal-chassis UMA laptops like N15xZU wich also has a pretty nice Touchpad even for a small price.

I like my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 3600 anyway much better than any trackpad. It always works without any delay or hiccups and thanks to native Bluetooth it does not block any USB ports.

Is there a specific reason as to why you would like an *upgradable* LGA1151 CPU? As the 10th gen processors will use a different socket.

With BGA you’ll need a MB swap if something happens. And you’ll get the most powerful processor if you go for this gen notebooks.

Plus you could get 6 core now and 8 core later when the price drops.

I could see the 8 core coming down a fair bit later on.

Yeah, especially as higher core counts in the consumer line of products become more standard

Exactly, the 8 core parts will be the mainstream a couple of years down the line like the 3700.
