Got a 150HM almost 2 years ago but I'm starting to feel the need to upgrade the GPU and was wondering exactly what my options are? I currently have a 580M and everything works great but instead of buying a brand new laptop I'm looking to explor all my options. 680M ? AMD?
Looking for the highest high end GPU that it can handle even if I have to get a beefier PSU.
Thanks and all or any info would be great.

Why did you post again lol?

Well, again, I'd say go with a 7970M for P150HM since you won't use Optimus.

    Hey

You can roll with a 7970m but you will lose HDMI out, or you can go 680m and everything will work fine. We'll sell you the 680m (has to have a little work done to it on the vBIOS side to work in the HM's) just let us know.

Sorry, just covering all by bases.
Thanks for answering so quickly, so has anyone upgraded to a 7970M?
Optimus is no big deal to me anyway but any chance a 680M is compatible? 700 series?
To anyone who has upgraded any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
Glad to hear both would work but would I have to send you my laptop and how exactly can I get the vBIOS that works?
Will contact you soon after I explore all my options :)

The vBIOS work is done on our end, so you don't have to send us the laptop if you want to do the work yourself (Swapping the GPU), just saying you can't buy a 680m off the street and have it work.

Also on the 780m it doesn't work... for now.. we'll see about the future.

Also, just wanted to point out that Optimus will not work on the HM series because they do not have the integrated GPU enabled.

Hey! Quick question. My 6990m died again (2nd time) after 14 more months and I'm thinking of asking/paying for an upgrade when I get it repaired.
Does the DVI work in dual-link with the AMD 7970m? I know (I think?) everything works with the NVidia GPUs, but they're so much more expensive than the AMDs for the same performance.
I don't expect upgrading to the 670mx would be expensive, but it's sometimes slower or on-par with the 6990m. Although I guess it runs slower and would be more reliable. And it could run DVI-DL...
But the 680m, which IS faster than the 6990m and on-par/faster than the 7970m, sells for 200$ more than the 7970m.

It's going to be a single link signal but the connector itself resembles a dual link connection. You'll be limited to the single link capabilities on it no matter the card you choose.

Wow, thanks for the quick answer.
Aww, I'd read somewhere that the NVidia GPUs work in dual-link. I guess I was wrong. Makes the choice somewhat easier.
This kind of information is pretty scarce. We can count on retailer representatives on the NBR forums, though!

Haha, exactly why we're here! We get the luxury of seeing the product lines from beginning to finish and talking to customers asking these questions every day, we practically have this information run through our heads as we sleep at night by the time the first month is over.

If the 8970m is a rebrand of the 7970m shouldnt we be able to fix it in the same way? Is it the vBios that can be incompatible?

No one knows cause these cards haven't been released. Wait till they are released and then we talk.

theoretically yes, but practically it´ll be quite difficult.

reason: the modified vbios we have for the 7970M in order for it to properly function in non-enduro machines came from sager themselves. thus, im not sure if we could modify the 8970M vbios in the same way ourselves...

so this time around my money lies on the 780M in hopes that it only needs a modded driver .inf file to run on our beloved HM machines, just like the 680M before :)

If they get the 780M working watch out ! Still mulling whether to upgrade to a 680M and just get it over with but the increase of performance between the 2 is just to big.

Can I plz make a request to all commercial builders of Clevos/Sagers with P1*0HM series notebooks?

Can you please test the new 780m and 8970m with the Clevo P1*0HM series notebooks and update us(the notebookreview community) on your findings i.e. what works what does not work, etc

Please paste all your findings in a new thread.
    Thnx.

no worries mate, theyre gonna come around to that eventually :) although ull have to be patient, since the sm series testing has absolute priority, followed by the em series. only then would they take a look at our good ol' hm machines, thats the way it works :)

    Bump for luck.

When my Sager finally dies (hopefully not too soon) I'm not gonna go with it anymore just for the reason of poor support.
