I like mobility more than anything else, but, getting a large external monitor is tempting, something along the lines of 22".

    I see two different kind-

1680x1050 and 1600x900(the selling point is HD compatibility, 16:9 ratio).

Which one do you think is better with the M860TU/NP8662, and why?

    Thanks!

the M860TU/NP8662 comes with a 16:9 screen? Anyways the 16:10 (1680x1050) is better

    - More real estate both vertically and horizontalls

    - More programs would be compatible since there are some programs that wouldn't run on anything less than a 1024 vertical pixel resolution.

honestly, honestly, if you want the hd compatability, go up a tier to a 24" monitor at 1920x1200, good ones can be had for about $230.
