    Very Nice! :)

Could you do the memory benchmarks in Sandra, too?

It seems a bit faster, but the difference doesn't justify the costs.. :D

Mythlogic's quote was accurate, it is about a ~5% increase.

    Don't worry about it.

Ryan, would it be worth it to do this for someone who is only a casual gamer but wants to get every ounce of power out of his / her laptop? Also, is there any increase in noticed heat?

If you aren't concerned with the cost- it's worth it. The jump should give you a 5-6% increase in gaming FPS from the 1333 RAM. It's not significant, but if you want every last bit of speed- it's a jump.

As for heat, yes, they do run a little warmer- but it's not anything to worry about.

    Very nice work.

I have 4x4GB of HyperX that's meant to get here Tuesday. Really good to see some benchmarks for it. :)

I was afraid this might run warm,

but I don't really feel a difference under my keyboard as well..

It is just like using the original 1333, I don't feel any difference in warmth, etc.

So no worries about added heat or anything.

I'm debating a build with i7-2630QM+8G 1333MHz+250GB Intel 510 or i7-2760QM+8G 1866MHz +120GB intel 510. Getting a few more fps and the stronger processor sounds nice to me, but not sure if its worth it if I'm just gaming. Any opinions?

I would go with the 2630QM if you are just into gaming.

I do some engineering work so a faster processor and RAM helps me.

But overall, the RAM makes the computer itself a bit faster.

Yeah, with the new SSDs just around the corner (the Intel 520 series namely), it's best not to invest too heavily into the current lineup =P

Arguably- that's always the case with technology. For most people, they probably won't notice the difference in upgrading from a current SSD to a 520 series.

Very true. Just saying, its better to wait just that extra month especially if you know when the next new thing is just around the corner, because:

    a) Prices for the old models go down
    b) The new one is almost always better for the same price, or even lower $/GB (this happens more often than not for SSDs)

I got the C300 when the M4 was rumored to come out..

I snagged a brand new sealed one for $299 of eBay.

I actually got 2, sold 1, cost me about $150 in the end.

The performance difference is 2-5% at best, going from the 1600Mhz to 1800Mhz. The difference is the same going from 1333Mhz to 1600Mhz.

So at best, you'll see 4-10% overall if you jump from 1333 right to 1866. Others have reported having no issues running 1866 with the 2760QM.

It seems like the performance gain is marginal... but it also isn't a ton more to get the higher frequency memory.

I personally plan on going with the 1866 memory, just because I can, and I plan on doing memory intensive tasks like virtualization and development work and feel that the marginal increase in cost is worth it.
