hi guys im thinking of getting a 5797 sager laptop.
im usually with my girlfriend in some cafe or another while we work and surf the net.
she usually has more work than me and i end up gaming while waiting for her.
my question is with the 5797 being the beast that it is , would it be too bulky to be used in a starbuck coffee table?
i presently use a 17inch notebook which is not as thick as a sager. however im thinking that maybe the sager may look super silly awith its gigantic power supply and bulkiness and maybe actually be difficult to carrya round .
im always with my notebook and im 5'10 and fairly athletic but im just concerend that the 5797 may just be a bit too large, especially when used in those small coffee tables.
if it is im getting an 8662
what do you guys think?

If you check out the dimensions of the laptops, they are about equal.
Thickness wise, it's about the same as well, but the Sager slopes towards the front.
397(W) x 280.5(D) x 25.6~45.6(H) mm (sager) vs 396 x 285 x 41.8 mm (HP)
I think you're asking the wrong question if it's the size of the laptop you're worried about. The PSU might be another matter entirely, but the PSU is possibly not all that much larger than your current.
As for difficulty in carrying it around, that differs from individual to individual, the only person who can really answer that question is you. Perhaps you could try carrying around a similar weight (5797+ PSU) for a day or two and see if you find it comfortable. -
hmm if these are indeed the dimensions then they are v similar!
-
Put it this way it will blow away all the Dell, HP, Apple and whoever else is there. You will get more questions and your coffee will go cold.

Having seen a 90W HP adapter and the 120W brick that the 5797 uses, I can say that the latter is much bulkier and heavier.
Hell, I carried the beast to LANparties in my 15,4" Dell backpack, wasn't the most pleasant experience and was rather cumbersome to handle, even if it stayed on the desk most of the time. -
I have used my D900K in starbucks and other coffee places.... it pretty much dwarfs everyone else's notebooks.
I just game on it mainly and do some work when I am there, I get some weird looks when people cant figure out why there is no brand on the large system. -
Hahaha, tell me about it. I am constantly on a move with my M570TU and I am not quite a sports type of guy.
So think about keeping it on your back for about 2 hours: the full laptop plus the adapter plus bluetooth mouse plus CDs and maybe some other cables.
I have actually got used to it, but I wouldn't like anything heavier. 4kg is the maximum a laptop should have. The adapter is about 1/2kg so the laptop plus adapter is about 4 1/2 kg - > 10 lb. -
If your anything like me, you could care less what other people think if your notebook streches out, over the table edge, into the aisle at Starbuck's !
Or if you look cool or not ! -
my main concern too is space. since the tables in cafes are quite small.
i was actually thinking of getting an asus w90 but its just too big to lug around on a frequent basis. but it is a beast and very competitively priced and looks good too -
its gonna be a headturner, most ppl dont even know there is a sager brand out there.
-
LOL, i never thought about this one....
And I go to cafe a lot... hanging, hotspotting, etc.
hmm, i might have to re-consider my choice on Clevo D901C -
It's not like it's a Qosmio or some other disgustingly gaudy notebook. If anything, when they see your notebook operating at levels which their $3k Macbook Pros couldn't dream of reaching, the latte crew's women will flock to your knee, like mosquitoes to the porchlight of a Georgian farmer.

The D90X is different, as it's huge, even for a 17". -

Imagine the gasps
Imagine the Ohhhs and Ahhhs
Imagine the dimming of the lights when I plug it in...... -
I don't know how you guys do it, I find 17" notebooks to be gigantic and completely impractical for taking places.
-
Dude, how about a LAN game session in Starbucks using only 3 laptops,
HP Pavilion HDX, Dell XPS M2010, and Clevo D901C
Now that will make all the power goes out as well -
-
yeah, probably have to join few small tables into 1 big table...

ofcourse everybody will stare at you
tips for privacy, turn down the LCD brightness. With low brightness, people can't see what you are doing since the "dark" LCD will give a mirror effect if it seen from far away. -
Usually I just do whatever everyone does or... you know, fire up C&C Red Alert 3 and engage in fierce battles, read emails, mindlessly browse notebook review forums. It's just I don't like for everyone to stare at whatever I am doing. -
i dont carry my m570tu 17 inch much around with me. but i often use it in train from home to work and back. it just fits on the small train tables. people sometimes stare at me because most of them running around with small subnotebooks or netbooks. but i prefer to watch my movies on 17 inch

you dont run out of battery running movie in a 17" gaming laptop?
-
energy save mode i got 1 1/2 hours. but i mostly watch episodes of tv shows like prison break, 24 oder terminator tscc.. they last 45 minutes and my train need 55 minutes before i'm at home... so its fine

What is the reason for not wanting an NP8662?
That 15.4 will be easier to carry around and the GTX260M will handle your gaming. I think that laptop is a great compromise between power and portability. -
I dont like carrying external HDD, even the 2.5" one. -
but the 8662 looks sweeter and sweeter each time i check its specs. great bang for buck!
i guess it will boil down to how well the 260 performs vs the 280 and the new atis in the end for me -

*Fade to scene in Starbucks with patrons sitting in the dark......sipping their overpriced lattes and the eerie glow of screens still going powered by Battery*
Oh yeah, bring the pain. -
-
Overpriced lattes?? LOL
-
i actually hate starbucks and their overpriced menu
but my gf loves it there- so no choice
its fun gaming there and watching apple owners take a glance at something they can never have though... -
becareful of what you wish for...
Apple already migrated to x86 platform. It's just a matter of time for Clevo to offer gaming laptops with Mac OS X + Windows 7 dual-boot -
steve jobs and the rest like keeping apple to themselves
theyd probly slap clevo with a lawsuit-
-
-
its really funny when apple dudes look my way when im playing fallout 3 or mass effect.
something they could never do on a macbook pro -

I've used my old 5791 at Starbucks and other such places a few times. It's a lot to carry, with school books, power brick, gaming gear etc. my backpack can weigh up to 20 pounds! But that's the price you pay for on-the-go gaming and it's worth it! -
-
why Clevo doesnt make a new class between the M570 and D900...
you know, 17" with 2x GPU and 2x HDD. so it will be thinner like Alienware M17. -
i go thru my laptop's battery in a matter of minutes after a grande ice mocha. it makes me go all giggity giggity goo
on a more serious note, i would imagine a 8662 would be better if you're always on the move. -
yeah the 8662 seems like a very sweet deal.
my only concerns with it are possible heat issues and upgradability - which are both semi related -
I can also say that gt725 is one of the lightest 17'' ers out there. If you want a light thin and powerful computer, you may go with it. I hate MSI by the way. Not because of their producs but because of their people.
-
I'd recommend the NP8662 over the NP5797 as its a smaller form factor as well as it has the power of a 17". I'm using its predecessor and coming from a 17" laptop for 4 years, I'm very happy with the change.
