I'm ordering a 170em as a desktop replacement and primarily a gaming rig, the portability will let me bring it to a friend's house, around my own place, and to possibly bring with me on vacations.

Now, I won't be playing games outside and will almost exclusively be used indoors, so I am leaning towards glossy. However, I have also never owned a glossy screen so I'm not entirely sure what I'm getting myself into. The current laptop I use is Matte, and there is a slight graininess, but it's also 4 years old and I don't really know if matte screens have gotten better over the years.

For desktop-replacement indoor gaming purposes, does it make sense to go for the glossy screen? Or have matte screens gotten a lot better and even indoors glossy gives annoying glare when gaming? Having a good screen is really important to me since I plan on having this machine for another 4 years.

I know it's a point of preference for people, but I hope that by giving my personal situation I could get some helpful advice from others who might be in a similar situation.

    Hi JoshM,

I own both glossy & Matte.
In the end, I say its a matter of personal taste.

Glossy is still glossy, if you cant stand reflection.
But it doesn't bother me that much and the trade off in beautiful color imo is worth it.

Matte has a really nice viewing angle, doesn't have reflection. But you put it side by side with a glossy screen. You see that gloss is slightly more vivid.
