    Is the Sager NP9262 with the 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen still shipping with the LG LP171WU1-A4K4? Are there any resellers offering an LED or LCD with more colors, brightness or dual lamps for this notebook other than the LG WU1?

    You have nothing to worry about the screen is awesome, even if it is glossy.

    Like I said you have nothing to worry about, my screen looks fantastic, colors are vibrant,no lag or ghosting effects and if you have the 1900x1200 contrast ratio is a little over played.
    You could always do adjustments from the Nvidia control panel also.

    @Shyster

    That is a great idea if I could buy the D901c barebone on a really good deal and be responsible for my own support. I know that Rjtech sells it barebone but it is not that much cheaper than getting the NP9262 from one of the preferred resellers. If I bought it from Rjtech or a reseller and swapped out the LCD then my warranty would surely be voided. But continuing on the original thought, months ago someone posted that they might swap out the WU1 with the WU5 (the exact specs I don't remember and it doesn't seem to be listed on the LG site). Was there any follow-up that you remember whether the WU5 worked and had better colors, etc.?

    Simple search turned up this: http://www.lcdsuper.com/lg-lp171wu5-laptop-lcd-screen.html

    WU5:

    16.5 million colors (8bit)
    800:1 Contrast ratio
    100% NTSC Gamut
    8ms Response time
    LED RGB Backlight

    Put an email out to Rjtech to see if they might sell it with the WU5 or better...RJTech doesn't do it.

    Trying Prostar...

    @NGH:

    In the absence of express language in the written warranty itself (and assuming that such language would survive a challenge), your warranty would almost certainly not be voided, it would merely be inapplicable to the replacement component, and to any damage to the system that was proximately caused by your replacement of the original LCD with the other LCD, provided you used ordinary due care, had enough skill and knowledge to make your undertaking of that project reasonable, and you made sure that the replacement LCD was, in fact, compatible with the system, e.g., by inspecting the manufacturer's published specifications and limitations.

    Your particular local law may differ, but in the U.S., the courts have generally held that a manufacturer cannot condition the continued validity of a warranty on the buyer's refraining from using third-party aftermarket parts that are otherwise mechanically compatible with the manufacturer's product. This issue has come up primarily in relation to automobiles, e.g., using oil filters that either were not also made by the auto's manufacturer, or were not approved for use by the manufacturer, but the general rule of law to be drawn from those cases applies to goods other than just automobiles.

    Furthermore, refraining from opening up the system cannot be a sine qua non for continued validity of the warranty since the manufacturer - Clevo - clearly expects buyers to open it up to, e.g., change out the GPUs. Since a certain portion of those people who are willing, and able, to swap out GPUs will almost certainly be willing, and able, to undertake other sorts of under-the-hood work, and since the systems are specifically marketed as having a GPU that the user can swap out, neither Clevo nor the resellers will be heard on a complaint that your warranty is void solely because of the fact that you went ahead and also replaced the LCD; instead, they would have to show that you were negligent in doing so in some fashion, either because you weren't prepared for such an undertaking, or because you were careless in either doing the work or selecting the replacement LCD.

    Of course, mileage may vary, so if you really want a legal opinion on the topic, and not just my blathering (which isn't legal advice), please consult a reputable, competent, local attorney.

    Ultimately it's not worth the effort to try to make this something more than it is, but thanks for the heads up! Hopefully a total refresh of this system will be forthcoming and include an lcd with 8bit 16.5 million colors or better.

    you prob will not see the better displays to soon as newer technology is due out soon... even lcd panels for the home will have a limited life span now.. and i went through 5 displays from different manufactures/models and wish i could say i found a better one. now that i have a dell i have the dell version of the lp171wu1 (tl)(a5) and ITS HORRIBLE, the version sager uses BLOWS the dell version away. the only panel i have not tried yet in my dell is the sharp which i may order to test. there are a number of places to buy lcd's from for about 240-300$ if you buy the notebook and wish to swap it out
