quad-core will do a much better job that the even the fastest of dual cores for CPU intessive work such as video/audio encoding/conversion/rednering.

I believe that the quad-core would be better in this instance inasmuch as I believe that there is video processing software out there now that can take advantage of four cores.

most of the up-to-date media software is multi-threaded to fully support quad-cores and even up to 64 threads for certain programs. :)

On the topic of the E8400 versus the Q6700 - one nagging little question I've had is this: the E8400 has a 1333 FSB whereas the Q6700 has a 1066 FSB - is this difference due to the underlying hardware of the FSB, or just an artifact of the CPU itself. In other words, if one were to buy a system with a Q6700, with the 1066 FSB, and then attempt to upgrade to a CPU that utilized a 1333 FSB, would the FSB speed increase accordingly, or would one end up being stuck with a 1066 FSB that rendered the CPU upgrade somewhat pointless?

^^^ doesnt matter if you are oc'ing them.. if not the 1066 will only be a hair slower anyway... remember the fsb is quad pumped (lol) so many people are geting like 450 oc'ed on the 8400 x 4 is 1800 fsb anyway...about the same as a 6600 at 3.6 or so..
