Hi guys, Im really loving my laptop (see sig for details), I got it 4 days ago and Im stunned at how fast and quality machine it is. I have 2 questions that I wanna ask:

    1) How did you guys manage to get the Subwoofer working? I've got the latest audio drivers + THX studio installed & activated. My settings are set to 7.1 channel.

    2) I've set everything on maximum performance, even when running on battery. When I play Starcraft 2 on battery (Extreme setting, 1080p), I hear a buzzing noise from my battery. It doesent hinder gameplay in any way, but when Im on desktop, there is no noise. Only when I tab back into game, I can hear that buzz in the battery. What is causing this? Is the 6990M consuming the bajesus out of the battery so its buzzing, or there might be a reasonable explanation to this?

Other than that, the laptop simply is running GREAT and came shipped with all the extras I wanted. :D Gonna put more RAM into it soon, and a 2-nd HDD in my ODD Caddy that I got. :) Great laptop!

    1. should be on, it is not like a real subwoofer, so you wont notice a 'boom boom'. just play something bass heavy and put you hand under the laptop, you should feel the speaker there. Dont think of this as you 1000W dedicated woofer.

    2. no idea sorry. Does it also happen when plugged in? I assume not?

Try Fn + 5, I've heard a few people say this helps out with sound quite a bit :)

Also, I advise against running games on battery alone as the battery does not provide enough voltage for the card (vs. the AC adapter) and it may be why you're hearing a buzzing noise.

Okay, I set the graphics options from the AMD Control Panel to "Maximize Battery Life". So when playing games, I will have to play on low details to avoid wearing down the battery. Seems like the AMD 6990M really takes heavy current to run in full-performance mode, so I will use that when plugged in.

Thanks for the advice! :) I think Im gonna buy one more UPS so when the power goes out, I can play plugged in at maximum performance.

I'm amazed you can even play on battery power, my NP8690 didn't have a powerful enough battery and it would just crash during games on battery power. As for the sound, I'm not sure if it's the battery or not, I heard an odd buzzing/clicking sound too with my Sager. I doubt it's anything to be concerned about.
