Make sure you are plugging the headphones into the right jack, and if you are talking about using a wirless LAN in your laptop to connect to a connection, try repairing the connection, if you keep getting dropped off, he could be booting you off, a weak signal, or a crappy router. Hope I could help.

i fixed the headphone problem by reinstalling the audio driver but it's not the wireless that messed up i can connect to my neighbor's wireless without any problem it's the connection to my modem with an ethernet cord thats messed up

Have you used the same cord with other systems successfully? In some cases powering down and then powering up your router and/or modem will refresh the association with your new system.

Even though it should have been enabled by default you may want to check your BIOS to make sure the port is set to enabled.

go to control panel, network connections applet and see if you have a "local area connection" icon.
if yes, see if it says "connected", if not & if the status is "disabled", double click on it to enable it.
if it says connected to start with, right click on it & get properties. In the "items" list verify that you have "TCP/IP" item.
Double click on it and verify that it says "obtain ip automatically".
Then open a command line window and type "ipconfig /renew Lo*[ENTER]" (don't type [ENTER], just press the ENTER key.) & tell us what happens at every step above.

make sure you control panel is in classic view to see all the applets.
what exactly do you see in control panel?

it's very unlikely that you don't have it unless you have a major system issue which deleted ncpa.cpl in system32 directory somehow. windows xp & up actually has a copy in the dllcache directory so it's very unlikely.
