Hello, I'm fairly new here and am in the market for a new gaming notebook. I've been looking at the Sager NP9370-3D.
I currently have an older ASUS Notebook although its still can play I don't think it will be able to keep up anymore this year. I will probably make my purchase within 2 to 3 months. I want something that will last me at least a couple years without needing to upgrade to a brand new system.

Will Sager/Clevo release anything new in Q1 2013? Something possibly replacing the Sager NP9370-3D?

I can provide some infos, based on the old thread about the 2013 Clevo refresh.

This quote is from Cloudfire, who on the other hand quoted some other dude from a reseller company.

Frankly, here is my advice: WAIT for the refresh. You can hold out until summer, your laptop right now is healthy and you can definetely afford to wait.
New hardware is ALWAYS worth it, especially with the new GPU's that will come this year.
AMD will release its 384-bit 3GB DDR5 flagship videocard for laptops, the 8970m.
Nvidia will unlock more of the current Kepler goodness, so it will get better for those who wait for it.

So...wait for it and enjoy your old laptop for now.
It will be totally worth it, I promise.

Clevo usually release new products when a new CPU generation comes out, so that'll be Intel Haswell which is slated for a june release, so expect to see new Clevo machines in Q3 of this year I'd say though that is a guess.

Thanks for the respond. I'm glad to be part of this community. Well at least I'll have money saved up because I'm sure the newer stuff will have a heftier price tag. I'm glad the EM series will be refreshed because from what I've read so far everyone is enjoying their notebook.

    ...Now to endure the wait.

We know this generation is not going to be a huge performance increase and is more of a feature/design change so if you see something that fits you now I would not worry too much about the upcoming stuff.

Looking forward to some redesigns for both CLEVO/SAGER and MSI. The performance increase will just be an added bonus.
    So now the wait begins....

The problem is, there will be likely the same chassis for MSI and Clevo's are gonna be the same (except for the flashy versions, which would be optional).

And the hardware wont be that spectacular compared to what we had between the Arrandale First-Gen Core series to the Second gen.
It will be some minor bumps in performance here and there.
    Less than spectacular.

But lets be optimistic naive like kids :D

    Ughhh!
Absolutely right they don't look appealing at all except for the last 13" model. We'll see where this goes.

They've stated that the new models would have the option of the older business-like look or the new semi-flashy designs. But we'll have to wait and see.

As for the hardware refresh, Kepler won't be getting TOO much of a boost from what we can see. As for AMD's rumored 384-bit mem bus 8970M... that's up to your speculation. Haswell will offer a little boost over Ivy Bridge. Not enough to wait two months over, BUT enough to wait maybe a week or two for. If you're going to buy your machine in June or July (as this is basically April right now) then see if you can snag a refresh. The prices should NOT be much heftier since they're simply replacing the current models with the newer ones; usually prices remain the same (and previous model prices drop, but you won't be able to get the previous model chips with the haswell machines as the chipset and socket would be different).

Haswell's main benefit you should consider is battery life, but that's not going to be too much of a bonus as Sandy/Ivy bridge ALREADY is quite power efficient and your video card will be the main source of battery life drain if I remember correctly. So don't think that it's an amazing refresh that's coming out, unlike when the machines went from Core2Duo/Core2Quad/1st-gen-core-series + GTX 280M/Radeon HD 5870M over to the 2nd-gen-core-series + GTX 485M/Radeon HD 6990M. I don't think such a large jump is going to happen anytime soon at all, since they've closed the gap between desktop and mobile chips by a LOT.

the current generation 15"/17" Clevos are frying pans. I only hope Clevo wtih Haswell will work without fans constantly on during idle/low loads. though, i have my doubts it will happen, tdp is actually going up.

yes, they are hot on idle and very hot during the load. there are plenty of "mods" with aluminum foil, check last couple pages of clevo forum for it. On top of that, Ivy Bridge itself has cooling problems. It is yet to be seen if Haswell will have IHS soldered instead of assembled via layer of thermal paste.

Anyone know if Clevo plans to make a little redisign on it's P570WM laptop as it did to the SM line-up? May be with the release of IVY-E this September?

That would come down the line, hopefully IVY-E will just be a slot in upgrade.

While Haswell has been officially announced, I agree with Meaker: it's more about feature gain than performance gain. The biggest step in performance will be the successor to the HD 4000 graphics.

Ivy Bridge desktop had that problem. Mobile CPU's don't have an IHS so no that isn't a problem. And very few people have issues with high idle temps. Proper thermal paste will fix that. My CPU doesn't exceed 80C with gaming unless I use Throttlestop to bump up clocks. My system idles at 40C and about 45-48C with light use:

Also seems the more powerful CPU are more thermal efficient or they just work better with Clevo? 3720QM idles at lower temps than the 3610QM it seems and same for 3740QM. I'm waiting for a nice sale price on Ebay and upgrade to a 3740QM.

Looks like all the current Sager notebooks are disappearing from the reseller websites. This means new notebooks should be arriving soon! Although I got a little news that W110ER is gone as well and likely isn't coming back. RIP little guy. I thought they said they'd continue to offer it, just not refreshed. Unless they feel the 13" will replace it entirely.

I don't get what the hullabaloo is about the new Clevo designs. Take away the awful decals that vendors love to slap on their products for trade shows and back LCD lighting (which you can likely shut off), the p37SSM looks like a big Asus G75 which is pretty nice IMO. And they're still keeping the current p370em chassis so you'll have that option too...

That's the P157SM, there will be a P150SM as well without that type of design, more traditional Clevo styling.

Clevo clearly needs new management. I don't blame the people who designed the Pxx7SM models, as much as I blame the executives who approved them and sent them through to production.

These are their answer to the fanbase wanting more modern aesthetics? Simply embarrassing.

Clevo would own the boutique market, with competent leadership.

Guys relax. That's the P157EM, there will still be the traditional conservative P150SM. And quite honestly, I never understood all the hubbub about Alienware laptops either, I think they look hideous.

I can understand the gripes against the aesthetics. Some think less is more, while others think more polished aesthetics - however arbitrary - somehow depict more performance (e.g., racing stripes = sporty, therefore it must be fast!).

As long as the construction quality remains the same, I hope people are still happy with the new lineup. Enthusiasts will most likely refine/customize what they don't like later, anyway.

Would sir desire that with the bling or without the bling?

I'd have to say if it was me I would get the P157SM, grab the CPU cooler from a P170 series and the primary GPU heatsink from the 375SM and clock the living daylights out of it, but I guess that's just me.

It will be the chipset has at least 4 so they may as well use it.
