Hello comunity, I have a Clevo P870DM-G with i5 6600k, 16gb ddr4 2400, 180w gtx 980DT. One day i woke up with the ideea to try a second gtx980 to improve a little the gpu performance. So far so good. After the card arivved i putted in the laptop, all conected inclussive external 4pin power delivery to the gpu.s, i also buyed a secont 330w ac adapter(for a total of 660w). After all above both of the gpu.s are recognized in the system, i also have the Sli option in the nvidia control pannel...but...when i start Furmark Stress tool or Heaven engine the pc crash after 3 or 4 seconds.

Can anyone from the forum can help me? maybe i need to mod the Bios,EC,Vbios...who knows?
I apologize for my grammar but English is not my first language.

    Best regards, Andy

Nice work, would you please share some photos from the inside so we can see how did you manage the installation (Power/Heatsinks...etc). The vBIOS for both cards must be the same, and the The P870DM models always comes with 1 card, so maybe the BIOS needs to be modified to have the SLI option working as well.

    Good luck,
    Regards.

Do you have some pictures of the inside? It gives a better visual?
    Of the card(s)?

I'll assume you tested the secondary card independently in the primary slot to make sure it is working?

Do GPU's have the same vBios? I'm pretty sure they need to have the same so that SLI works flawlessly

Furmark is great tool to kill your GPU. Use Heaven or Superposition benchmarks or even Futuremark's/UL's 3dmark free version to test the GPUs.

Hey NBR team, sorry for the long waiting but i was a little bussy with the holidays. First things first.
-both of the cards have the same vbios
-the cards were tested individually and they work like a charm
-temperature of both of the cards don.t surpass 76 degrees celsius

    I am waiting for Suggestions.
I have a feeling about power delivery on the cards. I think its something related to Bios/vbios

How have you wired the power delivery to the secondary connectors? Have you tried underclocking the cards to see if it still happens.

    Also don't use furmark.

yeah man, i think i tried everything at my capabilities. i also tried diferent versions of drivers even with DDU clean drivers. The strange thing is that i coud run furmark this time for a hole 30 minutes and even one time TimeSpy with 6480ish(vs 4038 on single gpu) score, and after a few (normal)reboots. it seems its crashing in games and benchmark tools with strange artefacts. one more thing that i observed is that the cpu heavely throttle down to 1800-2000mhz but the gpu.s stay at 1190mhz on the core. The thing that bothers me the most is that the gpus work flawessly alone.

I forgot yesterday to save the score with both of the cards...but it doesn.t mather so much until i dont find a solution for this "bug".

    best regards Andy

Yes, I had this working really well. But, I also had @Prema system BIOS and modded vBIOS on both GPUs. The stock P870DM-G had some weird CPU throttling problems while loading the GPU(s) with stock firmware. It is a power delivery issue, but it is firmware-induced, not a hardware issue.

@Star Andy if the CPU is throttling with the GPUs under load it is going to totally ruin your results. Have you tried using ThrottleStop to keep the CPU running at full TurboBoost clocks? If not, you might want to give that a go to see if things improve. Be sure to select the "Disable and lock Turbo power limits" option on the FIVR page. When you check that box for the first time you will be prompted to download RwDrv.sys. Do that and extract the archive to the folder where you have ThrottleStop.

Allready did that unfortunately, im not a pro with this thing but i catch the most basics on this domain. Sad to hear that i need bios mods for this to get those monsters to work... I know that @Prema has a lot to work and i dont want to bother him now with my issues. It think i gonna sell this 2 little beasts and go for a single quardro rtx4000. Or maybe a new p775tm. Many Thanks for your reply.

Hey you can get a complete P775TM1-G chassis on ebay for $995. you only need a CPU, Ram, GPU, SSD.

It is pre-assembled with 144HZ IPS Gsync LCD, Box, 330watt charger, and heatsink of your choice for RTX or GTX video cards.

And if you opt for the GTX heatsink, it includes a dual heatsink not a single unit. As this is a in house Eurocom design I think.

They let you add a RTX or GTX MXM video card of your choice, for extra if you want.

^ A pretty good deal really.

Oh and the P750TM1-g is only $895.
