I realize this is a very specific question and probably doesn't need its own thread but I wasn't sure where to ask it.

I've read everywhere that the 2090 should handle World of Warcraft without an issue, I just have a couple questions:

    1) I run WoW at 1650x1050, with everything on max, but I only get 30FPS outside, and it can dip as low as around 20-25 in crowded areas. Is this normal?

    2) When I run windowed and I tab out to another program, the background WoW game doesn't "update", so it looks like it's frozen in the background. When I ran it on my desktop this didn't happen, anyway to fix it? (Similar thing happens when I turn CAPS lock on/off, and it brings up the little message, it freezes that section of the screen temporarily).

    Thanks.

    1. Are you running WoW in Windowed mode? Thats the only time I got 25-30FPS (mostly 30) on my 2090. Full screen mode, I had a solid 60fps and 45-60fps in crowded areas (BG or IF).

    2. Sounds like a drivers issue maybe.

Yes, I am running in Windowed mode. However, I switched to fullscreen and it's still running 29-30FPS, in fact it even dipped as low as 18FPS in fullscreen.

I am using the sager website drivers (XP32) because I had sub-par performance with most laptopdrivers2go ones. Is there one you could recommend? I've tried most of the popular ones...

I used the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. I used 163.15 for both XP and Vista 64.

I downloaded the 163.15 from laptopvideo2go.com and tried to install it but it said it:

"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

    What do I do now?

Drop the modified inf (available from the same page you downloaded the driver from at laptopvideo2go) inside the nvidia installer directory. Then try running the installer again.

I was always using the modified INF's, but I just didn't get the performance boost I wanted.

I just tried the 163.15's, and it gets rid of my second problem. However, FPS still won't go past 30!! In fact, now it's usually at 21-25!!

P.S: Oddly enough, FPS does not change whether I'm watching movies, downloading torrents AND playing WoW, or if I'm doing nothing BUT play WoW. Is something limiting it?

I wonder if its one of the WoW addons that might be causing it. Try running wow without the Addons (not sure if its possible to do that though) and see if there is a difference.

Done that, still no luck... The strange thing is, it usually is at 29.9FPS when I'm idle (like always that same number). I can get over 30FPS, but only for short bursts when I turn settings down and look at something very graphic un-intensive (like the sky).

It sounds like vertical sync is on. vsync limits you to (the refresh rate of your monitor) / (some integer) frames per second. 60/2 = 30 fps.

Is the 165.01 or the 165.44 versions any good? or better than 163.15?

so now that we are on the subject of FPS, anybody know whats the best driver to install for my vista ultimate 32bit set up?

i downloaded and installed the bioshock demo but i get real crappy FPS (not quite sure what im averaging, but i'll find out later when i turn on the riva tuner fps monitor). anyways, i know my RAM is really lacking, im buying a 2GB stick sometime this week. but i also got a message after installing bioshock about my current drivers (which came from sager support) that they are old and known to cause problems. so i want to update them on laptopvideo2go.com, but im not sure which one is the most stable, compatible for vista 32bit, and yields the best performance so far.

    thanks

They may not be the most stable, but give the 163.44 drivers a try. These are the same beta drivers nVidia released with optimizations to enhance performance in Bioshock.
