Does anyone know if there is a way to get the fingerprint reader to work with Firefox? In the settings menu it lists IE as the only choice for supported browsers but I know that I have seen other UPEK readers work with Firefox.

It even mentions Firefox support in the help section of the Protector Suite QL control panel, but the directions it provides do not seem to work.

The fingerprint reader works fine for me, this is how I use it:
1.Go to the web page you want to log into and type your username/password.
2.Don't log in, just swipe your finger.
3.The "Protector Suite QL" menu should pop up, click register.
That's it, the next time you see that log in page you just swipe your finger and your info will be pasted. You can always just use the firefox 'remember password' feature, it won't clash with the fingerprint software (ex. double paste your info).

This feature sounds pretty impressive. Next we'll be having retina scanners mounted above the laptop screens.

i'd trust those more than FPS :)

it also takes more gut to poke out an eye than to cut off a finger! :p

When I try to use it as wtfbbq describes, I get the error that 'This is not an Internet Explorer module" and therefore cannot be registered. Are you running Vista?

First off thanks Rustin for making this post, i had no idea you could use the fingerprint scanner for logging on to sites, Rustin i got the same error but then i realized i was already logged on so i logged off and then logged on and registered the site and it worked fine, so make sure your logged off. Also i just started messing around with the control panel and discovered you can also launch applications with the reader, I dont know if you guys already knew that or not but i think it is pretty cool

I have all the problems Rustin says. I am using Firefox 2. I would REALLY like some Firefox support. One reason I went with this laptop is because people said there was great Firefox support. I don't see it.

The fingerprint reader software automatically works with Firefox in Windows XP. In Windows Vista, it only worked with IE7 and the OS.

Note that while being able to use your fingerprint to login is a listed "feature" of Vista, it definitely works in XP as well.

About the fingerprint reader software when using with Steam...

The fingerprint reader conflicts with Steam on the "Store" tab because Steam uses Internet Explorer to display the contents of that "Store" tab, and the reader crashes Steam, thinking that the "Store" tab is a Internet Explorer program. Disabling IE support for the fingerprint reader or disabling the reader altogether are the current solutions unless you can switch out to another tab in Steam really quickly when it opens.

I just found this out couple of hours ago, and I thought some of you might like to know, especially since most of you bought this for gaming.

haha i ran into the same problem and luckily figured out a solution because the fingerprint reader was taking up so much ram in the task manager.
