I am having a really difficult time in my decision between a glossy and matte screen on my potential order. Was hoping I could get some feedback from both sides from those that own the differently configured models to help me figure it out.

There is a wide variety of opinions concerning this issue. First off, if you want the higher resolution, it is only available with the matte finish. Besides that, typically glossy screens look better than matte finish in low light situations. However, outside and in higher light situations matte typically looks better.

Personally, i prefer matte regardless of the light situation. The best thing you can do is go to a computer store and look at the different types. Neither type is necessarily better.

The glossy really isn't glossy per se. You can see reflections when looking at the screen at an angle but when viewed head on there is no reflection. Plus if you're going to game the 1280x800 resolution is nice since it's native to a lot of games.

WSXGA+ Matte is really great, I had my concerns too but was the best decision I made selecting components...that simple. Viewing angles and brightness are superb...best I've owned (out of 5 laptops).
The only thing is the native resolution gaming...I play MOHA at 1400x900 and looks great though.

I'd go with the Matte all the way. Glossy screens can get really annoying. They look nice when your testing them out, but think of how it looks after 5 hours of reflections.

I thought the matte looked kind of grainy but it's actually the anti-glare coating. The picture quality is truly beautiful on this, I've seen LCD HDTV's that looked worse.

Also, the icons and buttons in Vista are noticably large than in XP. So your desktop will get cluttered fast at a low resolution like 1280, especially if you plan on using gadgets.

I will point out though that the WSXGA+ may delay your ship date, so if you need it immediately I wouldn't get that option.

The issue with gaming is that an lcd wont look as good at a non-native resolution. The actual difference is often negligible and depends on the user and the screen. In my experience the image will just appear a bit less sharp. Some people complain more than others, for me it really doesnt bug me, but most of the time i run at native resolution with lowered graphics settings.

But wouldn't that apply to the screen with less pixels and not the other way around?

It applies to this situation too. The image has to be stretched in order to fill up the entire screen. I really don't know what it is like on the sager. I will receive mine Monday. I can get you some pictures then to show you the difference.

In actual usage, I don't think you'll notice the screen type (in lighting situations that do not cause reflections) unless if you place 2 of them side by side. So, if you take your laptop around frequently and you're considering using it outdoors, get matte. I only use mine indoors and I have control over the lighting so I got glossy. But after not looking at a screen for a while and seeing someone else's rich color screen, I could not tell that it was really a matte screen.
