I recently reinstalled Vista and all the drivers from the Utility CD (not the touchpad drivers) and now both cores are idling at ~64C. They used to idle in the low forties. Has anyone else had this problem?

yeah i have been having the same problem. I contacted sager and sent in my temps. This is not normal you should contact them as well and tell me how it goes for you. My laptop restarted while playing for like 30 mins .Is your gpu heating up as well?

disable Aero (or other graphical eye-candy) if you want the temps lower... thats my experience.

T7700. Your temps should be the same (or lower) as I run my cpu at step 12 all the time. I have an IFL90 (sager 2090) as well. You should apply some Arctic Silver 5 on the cpu cores and get a laptop fan.

he shouldn't need to really do anything. I think he might have defective sager. I don't believe in changing anything to get better performance out of a product when it doesn't even meet the required performance. I think you should contact sager because those temps are high for idle, if you run an application that requires your cpu your laptop will be forced to restart or be down clocked.

I already use a laptop fan to get it down to ~50C but the fan used to get the cores down to the mid thirties before the reinstall of Vista.

That image is showing you having a Conroe, when in fact the T7700 is a Merom :)

You guys need to check what apps are running first off. A computer will only idle that high if some weird app is running or the fan is to lazy.(or malfunctioning)

I think it might be the fan because system idle process is taking up most of the CPU which is normal.

    Is the fan running?(dumb question)
Is the fan running audibly? Cause it should normally be audible at 60C ,when it should be having a hard time lowering the temps.
If you try to run Orthos and see if the CPU fan speed increases...but that will lead to high temps :)

Well this is weird. I just turned off my laptop fan for about 15 minutes and both cores are staying at 40-50C, which is the same temperature they were at when the fan was on. I created this topic yesterday without the fan on while both cores were at 64C and I had to use the fan to get them down to 50C.

I didn`t know you could turn down the fans, but that`s nice.
So what you`re saying is that the temps are the same with/without the fans? damn weird.
I really suggest running Orthos for about 5 mins and see if the fan`s speed increases.
Also, it will give me a better idea of the temps ...

I can't believe I've been using the wrong term this whole time. I meant I turned off the laptop cooler. I used the cooler last night to get temperatures down from 64C to 50C and now that I've turned the cooler off, the temperatures are staying at 50C.

    edit:
These are the temperatures before I reinstalled Vista.
Idle: ~44C (mid thirties with laptop cooler)

Is there any way to control fan speed? I've been using speedfan to get the temperatures but the fan speed never shows up on the left side.
