I think the NP2096 is a better buy than the NP2098, is there any chance the 2096 may be discontinued anytime soon?

    NP2096
    - WSXGA+ (1680*1050)
    - 9 Cell

    2098
    - WXGA "LED Screen" (1366x768)
    - "DDR3"
    - ATI 4650

Sure the 2098 has the 4650, but there are plenty of notebooks with WXGA & ~4650 for $850 today.

Most notably the MSI EX625-227US loaded at $699-$750 and with the 4670.

The NP209# series losses its draw without WSXGA+ or greater, and a 9 cell battery.

Unless someone can tell me the 2098 will be updated with an LED WSXGA+ screen and retain the 9-cell.

Bad move. It's no longer price/performance, it's rather generic.

Um.... I hope you realize that the last number of Compal notebooks use the same 6-cell and 9-cell batteries.

    Model numbers of the batteries:
    - BATEL80L6 (6-cell)
    - BATEL80L9 (9-cell)

they should fit in either system.

UPDATE: Compal KHLB2 cannot use the 9-cell of the previous Compal model due to its design.

THe 2096 will be discontinued once stock is depleted. Although the Screen is a WXGA, it is a 15.6" LED WXGA (1366x768) compared to allot of them out there now which are 15.4" (1280x800) non LED. At this time there is no confirmed info if the batteries from the previous model will work in this new one.

Every new midrange <$999 laptop out there is a 15.6-16.6" (1366x768) LED.

Correction: The 9-Cell does not work in the Sager NP2098 and PowerPro P 16:9 (Compal KHLB2) because since it sticks out 3/4" it interferes with the hinge design...it just won't fit correctly.

Oh, did not look at the model closely enough.

    Good to know. :)
