    2630 vs 2720

    Is there a really big performance difference between the two processors?

    Right now I'm thinking of getting an 8150 with the 6970 and 8gb ram.

    Going off to university next year with this laptop and looking to run games like SC2 on a fairly high setting smoothly.

    Not much of a difference at all especially with gaming. You are better off using that money on a SSD... :)

    Most people I've spoken to considered the 2720 an upgrade worth investing into.

    At least from what I understand, you get more going from the 2630 to the 2720 then you get going from the 2720 to the 2820, and it's a cheaper upgrade.

    agreed sir. That's why I bumped up.. Although if you're just gaming and not doing any virtualization stuff or video editing, you might as well save some $

    It depends on your primary uses for the laptop. If it is mainly gaming, then it will not take advantage of the additional features (such as virtualization) of the 2720. You will essentially be paying an extra $160 just for a 10% speed increase, which is unlikely to make any visible difference to you. In this case, that $160 can be put to much better use, such as an SSD, which will make a more tangible difference than that +200mhz will.

    If you do make use of the 2720's additional features, then yes, upgrading will be worth it.

    Stick with the 2630QM, unless you need virtualization.

    The 2720QM offers nothing to a gamer.
