Before i place my order, simple question, does the 2630qm support widi?

    It is not listed here:
    Intel Wireless Display

But I think that page was made before any information on the 2630qm went up. On the following page, the row for intel wireless display isn't even in the table:
    Intel® Core? i7-2630QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.00 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR02Y

Compare that to the page for, say, the 2720qm to see where it's missing.

I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere, only 'probably does' in a few places. I'd like to know for sure though if anyone can say.

edit: yes, i have noticed i posted this in the wrong place D:

It SHOULD be as any intel chip with onboard graphics should be widi capable. When paired with the right wireless card. I have sent an email to our intel rep to confirm this. And I'll let you know.

    thanks

    Hey,

I talked to our Intel rep about it, and he confirms that it should work just fine. He also looked at his internal version of ark and it didn't list it, but the WiDi product team confirmed my information which is that if its sandy bridge that it will work when you are using the iGPU.

    So yea go for it.

Just what I wanted to hear, much appreciated! It's a good thing too, I don't think I could've handled any more bad news after the intel recalls!s

But is the iGPU active in the Sager np8130, 8150, 8170 series?

Can anyone check in the BIOS to see if the Integrated GPU option is there?

If it is disabled, then it means we won't be able to use WiDi, right?

I'm fairly sure you can't use widi on those models: the igpu is not active.

WIDI will not work on the Sager NP8130, 8150, 8170 models. On the NP5160 and 5170 it will work because of the Intel graphics you can switch to... :)

I heard you can't even watch copyrighted material via WiDi. If that's true, then I hardly see a point for getting it.

If you can't watch Blu-Rays and other copyrighted material, I wouldn't use it at all. When else would it come in handy? I'm not going to watch something on my laptop over my TV, so that rules that out.

The original widi didn't support playing copyrighted material, but widi 2.0 does.

    In a hurry, no source.

There isn't a new processor generation. The 2630 is still the same CPU offered at the start of the thread :) (Meaning, no WiDi support)

There may be support come Ivy Bridge, but there is no way to know at this point.
