For those of you with a 2630qm in your 8130 / 8150s, does the 1600mhz DDR3 ram play nicely with the cpu, and if so, does the bios read the memory as 1333mhz (clocked down), or give it its full 1600mhz? I'm asking because it's the big thing that is stopping me from decidin on final spec for my laptop.

Also, would it be wiser to buy 8gb to start with and make a request that those 8gb are placed under the keyboard so that the other 8 i can simply put in myself without having to poke / prod?

Dont have 1600mhz ram myself, so I can't answer the first question.

My 8gb ram came under the keyboard without a special request. The CPU plays nice with 16gb ram.

If it's PNP ram it will run at 1600mhz. My buddies m18x with the i7-2630qm has 1866 pnp ram and it runs at 1866. Just make sure its in the right dims. I believe it needs to be under the keyboard in order to run above 1333mhz. I think Kingston makes the only PNP ram above 1333mhz. Not 100% sure though.

I just wondered since they both have the same CAS (9) but one is higher frequency than the other.

that's the m18x, its bios may upclock straightaway. I wonder about the np8130 / 8150. As for kingston, they're the only one making pnp over 1333. and that's what makes them great.

you are correct, that only works with alienware (via bios).
