    with the price difference being only about $50 now....is it worth the upgrade?

    Or is $50 better spent on something else like going from 1333 memory to 1600 ......or going from 8gb ram to 12gb ?

    I will be doing some mild gaming, and Audio recording with dual firepods though firewire conection into Reaper DAW

    Personally I'd suggest spending the $50 on something else :)

    Here's a breakdown of the upgrades:

    2630 -> 2670 = ~10% performance increase
    1333Mhz RAM-> 1600Mhz RAM = ~2-5% increase
    8GB -> 12GB = ?? (There won't be much of a performance increase, but if you run virtual machines or other memory hungry software you may actually use all that RAM, thus making it invaluable).

    I'd save the money and put it towards an SSD or at least a Hybrid drive. The speed boost there is pretty significant for day to day stuff. Definitely more than the 10% boost you'd see with the CPU or memory upgrades.

    How much of your time is spent gaming vs not? It sounds like you're not going to do anything super CPU or memory intensive as is. Even graphically, you won't be stressing the system too much either. I'd say just stick with the 2630qm and save for something else. :)

    I'd also agree with Malibal on the SSD upgrade. That stuff makes day to day tasks fly. No more grinding!

    I'll second the SSD notion (or third it?). If you've got the extra overhead to get one, go for it. It'll make the most noticeable difference.

    Memory speed will not merit the price per performance upgrade. Depending on the software you use the amount of RAM will definitely be the best option to upgrade.

    +4 on the SSD :D It truly is the best performance increase the PC industry has seen in a long time.
