I just installed a 280M GTX on my D901C.
But the system is not wokring right. I believe I need a bios update for it to work.
I am using the latest can be found here. which is .22 version I believe.
Does anyone have any ideas which bios update i should use
Thanks!

it means i can get into windows. but a few secs after the home screen show up. the screen would just go black. and die.....
-
I don't think that the D901C can support any of the NB10 series VGA.

this is where i got the info on it. -
it wouldn't boot at all or blue screen if it wasn't working so its probably not the bios. Try booting the laptop in safemode.
-
it will boot. i can even get into bios config.
its just everytime after i get into windows home screen. after a few secs. it just shut down. -
does anyone have a better guess?
i m hoping its because of the bios. -
Is it the MXM 2.1 variant?
-
I don't think the MXM 3.0B would fit in a 2.1 socket.
-
What about writing down everything you did and sending these details to the store you bought? They should be able to help. From what you said until now it is difficult to say what is wrong.
-
Yes it is a 2.1. So it fits. And I can even see it in my device manager as gtx 280M
and judicator. the character on Ur profile pic looks like my name. What does it mean -

How did you install the BIOS? In order to work properly the EC/KBC firmware has to be install first. This firmware controls the fans.

I did flash the latest firmware and then BIOS.
I m starting to worry that it could be the motherboard is damaged.. -
Please post here all the steps you followed since your previous card fried.

You, ah, did remember to use thermal paste and thermal pads when you installed the new card, right?
Oh, and the characters in my profile picture are _my_ name, read from right to left in the classic style of family name and then first name. Or left to right, if you follow the western convention of given name first, then family name. -
if by thermal paste and pads you mean those white stripes that were on my original 8800m, then yea. i m pretty sure i transplanted all of them on my new cards.
your last name is Bai? interesting, dont think i have met anyone who has that last name. my given name is Bo. which means platinum.
i actually thought that was one character in your profile pic....LOL
also. i m trying to find a repair company to have them take a look. do you guys have any suggestions?
many thx! -

Well, at least in theory, it's possible that they had a pad on the GPU core too, and he transplanted that when he swapped the heatsink but... I'm not actually familiar enough specifically with the GPU on a D901C to be certain. If those white stripes you're talking about are a little rubbery or waxy, and cover the RAM chips and main GPU die so that they all make direct contact with the heatsink, then yes, those should be the thermal pads. If the strips you transferred only cover the ram chips then your GPU core is overheating and that's why it's shutting down. Putting a thermal pad or paste (paste is preferable, but pads are easier) on the GPU die should probably then solve your problem. Seeing as you got the card from mxm-upgrade, are you in Europe? It's difficult to advise you on a specific repair company without knowing where you are. It might actually be easier to just look in your local phonebook to see if there's anyone who works on notebooks locally, and stop in and see them.

Pictures of the actual issue and the gpu disassembled would make this a lot easier to fix.

i went to see a local laptop repair person. and all he did was clean the cpu and gpu up. apply some sorta electrostatic compound or whatever thing on both of them. he say its because i put too much of the thermal compound. is it possible?
anyway. after he was done. my laptop actually managed to stay on. but after i brought it home. it died on me once again. according to the guy, it could be a software problem. so i am reinstalling the windows.
i will post some pics later. -
If it was a conductive thermal compound, and managed to spill over the die onto electrical components and was thus shorting them out... yes. If not, then it's unlikely, but possible, I suppose, depending on exactly what was used and how it was applied.

hello i have same probleme fenzo
how did you resolved your problem -
experiment a little. thats how i got it working.
try googling how to apply thermal compound on gpu. it helps too
