Here amd is showcasing its latest mobile gpu built on 28nm.
    Powering driver 3.
    It works.
But no specs of any kind.

And we have another news here.
Radeon 7900 series to use XDR2 memory. Something much faster than GDDR5
Radeon HD 7900 Series to Use XDR2 Memory? | techPowerUp
Do you think we might be getting a mobile gpu with this new faster memory ?

I bet a dual 28nm, 2gb xdr2, 100w gpu replacing my dual 460m, will do wonders, especially since i think i have a problem with them (may be overheating, over dusting, i dont know - but i get a ''driver has stopped working and has recovered'' message error, with the whole screen going to hell.

Any comments on how might this 28nm mobile gpu turn out to be ?

Yeah, they will be 30-40% faster at the same TDP and price point.

too bad it'll probably be in a new MXM slot.

    ding ding ding

I have no hopes of upgrading to 28nm cards. I wouldn't mind being wrong though.

That would suck. I would love to jump up to a 7970m. If it is a new MXM slot, would the current standard slot be compatible with the new cards? I mean we haven't even used the max bandwidth or power of these current slots have we?

The 28nm gpu released in Q4 will be dramatically slower than the existing 6970/6990. These are low and midrange parts. The fast 28nm gpu won't be for several months later

Most likely not. This has never been the case in the past. MXM 2.1 to 3 retained no backwards compatibility. It's unfortunate because it severely limits upgrade ability, but it's usually done because power requirements (TDP)/bandwidth/form factor have had to change to the point where it just isn't possible to retain that backwards compatibility.

They can not do it (AMD), it would be a shot in his own foot. :D

I sure hope so. I bought my m860 like 6 months before MXM 3 came out and I'm not gonna make that mistake again...

    You mean 4GB XDR2 one? No ?
If a 4gb XDR2 100W 28nm amd gpu will come out, im sure it wil be very very fast, esspecialy if you stick two of them in a x7200.
Just look at this picture here:
    http://lenzfire.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/AMD-Radeon-7000-12.jpg

    We have a desktop chip, 90W, 2gb ddr5, 1408 radeon cores, 850GPU, 5200Mhz memory, 256bit wide memory interface, with 166Gb/s bandwidth, called radeon 7850.
Im sure a similar performing chip could be created to be the mystical 28nm 100W mobile amd gpu.

We have on the other side the full 7870 amd gpu, with 1536 radeon cores, 950mhz gpu, 5800mhz gddr5, with 186Gb/s bandwitdh and 120W TDP.

I'm sure something in between can be created (1536 radeon cores and lower freq) to fit the 100W tdp.
Perhaps they will skip the 4gb variant, as that much more meory is sure to consume aditional W.
Actually 2Gb is more than enough. I wouldnt mind 4gb of memory though, but i think the consumption will increase a bit from 2gb to 4gb.

Perhaps, if the XDR2 memory consumes less power than the GDDR5, they will go with 4GB version. We will have to wait and see.

    I wouldnt mind to have:
    1536 radeon cores
    900mhz gpu,
    5500 mhz GDDR5, or ???Mhz XDR2 in 2GB or 4GB variant
    170-180Gb/s bandwidth
    100W TDP

    In Crossfire.
