Just wanted share. Very, very noticeable upgrade.

Noticed the difference immediately. I should've done this from the very beginning. WEI upped from 5.0 to 5.1.

    OMFG!

In all seriousness, I'm glad you're to hear that you're pleased with your upgrade.

Shouldn't it be more noticeable? Diminishing returns and all that jazz?

If it's still running Windows 95, then it should be very noticable :D

I am using a Pentium II 350MHz with 512MB of PC100 SDRAM right now. Beat that. It runs XP Home and Firefox 3.0.1

*sucks when your processor has no SSE instructions* :D

Interesting -- I have the M570RU with 4 GB of RAM and get a memory rating of 4.8. That seems to be typical for this machine. I wonder what it is about your machine that got you the higher rating?

Not that the WEI means anything, but you could try running it again. You will mostly likely get different scores every time you run it, sometimes higher, sometimes lower. Nobody uses the WEI score as a performance measuring standard. At least nobody that wants a true idea of what their machine is capable of.

Didn't notice a bump with the memory change - but I still run XP. Noticable change from 7950s to the 8800s. Enjoyed the X6800 to E8400 zip. And the Supertalent SSD boot disk is sweet. Using Acronis Migrate Easy to keep the pulled 160 gb Seagate in sync with the SSD, just in case I get caught by a SSD failure. Then its a simple drive swap to be back up and running. The NexStar SX [model NST-285s2-BK] is a really nice design external HDD Enclosure, USB 2.0 compatible to put the pulled drive into.

But be aware that it could be sensitive to other USB power drains while you use this external drive. Just unplug all USB devices except for the Mouse and don't plug the mice thru the Nexstar Cable.

Would it make a big difference if I upgrade my NP8660 from 2Gb of Ram to 4Gb of Ram?

It really depends on what you are going to be doing with it and what OS you are using. If you are getting Vista 64bit (which will see all 4gigs) and be doing lots of rendering, video editing, encoding and what not, then you will see huge difference.

If you are getting Vista 32bit (which will only see 3gigs, even if 4 is installed) and only use the computer for gaming, web surfing and watching movies, then you will not noticed any difference at all. Well, maybe a little improvement in the gaming department.

Most people are going with 4gigs of ram nowadays because prices have dropped alot and it has always been the cheapest and easiest way to improve a PC's performance.
