Is the 2nd hard drive on 5760 a PATA or SATA?

Is PATA the same as IDE?

Installing XP on to a SATA hard drive would require SATA drivers off of a cd or do you need a floppie drive?

    S-ATA means Serial ATA (150MB/s)
P-ATA means Parallel ATA (100-133MB/s)... pretty much IDE technology

    From Clevo's site:
    One removeable Bay for 2nd Battery / 2nd SATA HDD / DVD-ROM / Combo / DVD Burner

The only way to get the 2nd harddrive in that model is to remove the optical drive to insert another module into that bay that houses an additional harddrive.

Hope that clears some things up,

Maybe I am asking the wrong question on the Clevo sit it says:

。One changeable 2.5" 9.5mm(H) HDD; support SATA HDD
。One Removable bay is for 2nd Battery or ODD or 2nd RAID SATA HDD

Would an IDE caddie work in the removable bay?

You should email Sager about this question.

However, if you plan on using a 2nd HDD for RAID, then getting it for the removable bay is your only option...
but if you are planning to want just extra storage, just get any USB 2.5" enclosure with whatever HDD that you want (its more cost effective)

As for the IDE caddie, this model should be able to use a SATA or PATA caddie in the removable bay, but it has to be up to the specifcations on Clevo bay type.

Sorry if thats not of much help,

    -Gophn

The NP5760, if you order the second hard drive or second hard drive carrier, takes a SATA drive in the modular bay.

Sager confirms that you cannot use the ATA caddie (bracket) from an earlier model because the placement of the IC board is different. You will have to get the new SATA bracket for the NP5750/60.

Unfortunately those bracket kits are on back order until sometime in July.

FWIW, I received a PATA HDD bracket with my 5760 and it works great... of which I am glad because I already had a drive I intended to use with it.

Well, you don't have a Sager. Sager upgraded their Modular Bay to the SATA drive and it appears that Eurocom did not.

The story is I am ordering a M570U and asked the local dealer for the 2nd hard drive bracket. The SATA drive is on back order so an IDE caddie for a 2nd hard drive was offered instead. So wanted to know if IDE was PATA ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this means that the M570U modular bay will support either a SATA or a PATA drive, depending which carrier you get...

Please understand that the Sager NP5720 and NP5710 both used IDE/PATA in the Modular Bay, then with the Sager NP5750 and NP5760 they upgraded it to SATA.

If you have a Clevo and not a Sager (as chooch and Vlad do, or they could have the M570A) you may very well have the IDE/PATA setup, but if it is a Sager NP5750 or NP5760 it will be SATA only and IDE/PATA will not work because the placement of the IC board (connection) is different.

It was my understanding that Sager does not manufacture laptops, and that the Sager NP5760 was a Clevo M570U... I have a model "M57U" according to the bottom of the unit.

    What am I missing?

Sager is by far the largest OEM in North America, and has sales worldwide. They will have custom tweaks to their Clevo models that other markets and OEMs do not have.

The concept that the M570U is identical for all OEMs worldwide is not correct. Probably the best example is Alienware that has their renowned LCD cover.

The other way to check this is to see if you can actually get a SATA bracket and SATA hard drive that will fit and work in your M570U from somewhere other than Sager.

You where right paladin. Just talked to the salesman I am order my laptop from. They only just received the new notebooks and was unaware that the 2nd harddrive bracket was different from the previous version.

So they are back ordering one for me.
