I'm considering a Sager NP5796 or NP5797. I would assume the power bricks on them come with 3 prong plug power cords.

The 115V AC power plug (150 watt recommended max current draw, but 300 watt peak capacity) in the 2006 VW Touareg has only 2 prongs.

Is it safe to use a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter to power one of these laptops in the Touareg during a road trip? I plan to play high end games on it while my Dad drives.

I wouldn't really recommend ungrounding the AC adapter, as this can cause static electricity to build up inside the laptop and give you some frequent static shocks. Just ask some Dell Inspiron M1530 owners who unfortunately got a 2 prong power brick with their notebooks, and received frequent static discharges only when their laptop was plugged in. Just my $0.02.

While the grounding pin (the third and longer pin on a US power cord) serves an important purpose, from a practical point of view you'll be fine if you just get one of those small 3-pin-to-2-pin adapters at a hardware store. Don't just snip the pin off the cord.
