Wasn't the M860TU supposed to have an option for a 3.5G HSPDA module...where can a module be bought separately?
-
-
good question.
this is the first post that I have seen that asks this question.
i know there are 3.5G HSPDA modems that are USB... I have not seen or searched for an internal one yet.... but I think it might have to be through a phone/internet service provider (not sure though). -
What interface do lenovo modules use.
I was just curious if it was possible.
On another note...what are some other good things to fill up the slot with besides turbomemory. -
for the time being... I think you can even use small SSDs... not sure though since I havent personally tested it.
-
Is this thing usable http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609407
does seem kind of nifty. Stuffing 64GB of space into the unused slot.
Could be good as a backup... -
hmm, i was just about to ask the same question about the possibility to put a HSDPA mini-PCI module.
-
I don't think its possible unless there is some other laptop that uses an AT&T (or whatever your carrier is) HSPDA module through mini-PCI.
-
You can get the modules on ebay, search for sierra wireless MC8775. note though some of these modules are HP specific and won't work with other laptops.

I think PCMW provides an option to install a mini pci-e 3.5g hsdpa module. as for now, im using a huawei usb dongle to use 3.5g service.
-
In the M860TU manual PDF, the HSDPA module is specified as Mini-PCI HSDPA module with USB interface.
In the "disassembling" photo, it shows the internal mini PCI module but no USB interface seen... -
The mini-pcie specification has usb built in to it - the connector has both pci-e and usb. Depending on munufacturer, some ports are wired as both, some as only one or the other (hence why some cards won't work in some ports)

We offer it on request as the module is quite expensive, I thought it wasn't available in the US because the networks don't support HSDPA?
-
there is HSDPA available in some locations. 3G coverage in most metro areas.
-
and what is the brand/model/spec? -
RTFM, guys
p. 1 - 4 "System Specifications":
"3.5G Module:
UMTS/HSPDA-based 3.5G Mini-Card Module with USB Interface (Factory Option)
Quad-band GSM/GPRS (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz)
UMTS WCDMA FDD (2100 MHz)"
WCDMA @2100 MHz will work in Europe & Asia (excluding Japan & Korea) only, not in North America
SSD on this place - is really good idea. it's necessary to search around this... -
Anyway, since I'm in Asia, the HSDPA module will be a benefit for me.
Is there any application that will make you able to make a voice call/SMS using the HSDPA module (internal and external)? because AFAIK, 3G module for laptop is data only. -

RTFM = Read The F...ing Manualsorry, it sounds rude...
for you - yep, it's nice idea, it's cost reasonably in Asia. in Malaysia, if i'm not mistaken, unlim HSDPA from Celcom / Maxis costs RM70 ($20).
voice calls - forget about this, brodata only. But you can use skype or any VoIP program to make calls
BTW, i've got 128Mb RAM on my Dopod -
I'm asking Neil@Kobalt, what's the brand/model/spec of the HSDPA module that he is selling.
PS:
My Dopod still use 64MB RAM, can't find 64MB RAM spare part
You want to send me one as a gift to me -
i don't think can you get it from any reseller from US, i think it's better for you to talk to Cube guys from Singapura. it's the closest and, i think, most price reasonable option.
for Dopod memory extension - if you've got a friend who repairs cell phones, i can ask the guy, who did it for me about procedure and chips he used and them we'll see -
Btw, I have a friend who repairs cell phone.
I also have the how-to-upgrade-your-RAM manual from Xda-Devs -
it's just the name of the company in SG, who's dealing with Clevo's stuff. look here:
http://www.sgcubehubs.com/home
aha, in this case u've got all u need. except, may be the chips itself. it was a bit tricky story to git, but finally my friend got it and did for me and himself. -
Yay -
some kind
-
I can't wait to hear the good news when you got the RAM -
For the 3.5G module :
First : it's a "Factory Option". This mean if it's not already installed in your system, you can't just add it. Why? because it's not only a PCI-E minicard, it's also a slot to put your SIM card in the motherboard, a door at the bottom of the notebook so the user can access the SIM slot without opening all the component bay cover, and finally a whole system of Antenna built in the body of the notebook.
Second : for the PCI-E minicard module itself, it's a Sierra Wireless MC8775, so you can find the specification in internet. Note that this card supports normally the 3 freq. of UMTS (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) while in the official manual of M860TU, they say it supports only 2100MHz. i don't know why !! -
How about the ssd option?
I've done some reasearch and it seems only smaller mini pcie ssd's can be fitted in there, 5.1 cm to be precise, max 16gb.
If we can swap the wlan to the other slot(near the cpu) then a decent ssd (32gb mslc, 64gb mlc) could be used in the other slot.
I'm not sure though that the part where the wlan card gets lockes with a screw won't interfere with a memory chip...
Any opinions? A new thread maybe?
