I'm currently in Thailand and Malaysia and instead of looking for hotels with wifi I wanted to get a sim card to put into my laptop and get their data rate coverage at $30/month 400KB/s d/l.
I figured I could do this with the 3.5G module I read about in the manual, but upon opening the cover there doesn't seem to be this "factory option".
Is there any way I can get sim card data coverage to my laptop?
I'm guessing this option can only be done at the factory and never thought about it while I was traveling. Is there a sim card USB reader of some sort?
This would be extremely useful as finding Wifi coverage in hotels is expensive and quite slow while the sim data coverage is fast and you can use it on a bus, train, coffee shop, ect. And I could also use Skype anywhere![]()

as far as i know when they first came out there was only coverage in the uk and part of usa. you also have to take a contract out and as far as i know it was about £100/$160
i will check up on this and get back to you.
edit:
this post was from a year ago.

I've already bought the 8662... is there any way I could get someone else to install it? I'm in Mayalsia where all you need is a slot to put it in. Mostly in Asia as well which is where I'll be traveling. Thanks for the reply

you will need to check with the supplier where you bought it from as they would be able to tell you if mayalsia is covered by the network.

I bought it from XoticPC but the guy didn't even know they had a sim card on it. When I called Sager support the guy again had no idea. So I turned to these forums
I'm just wondering if this can somehow be snapped onto the motherboard like most things in a desktop computer or if this would have to be soldered onto the motherboard and can only be done from the manufacturer in Taiwan?
I also don't see how the telecom companies in NA could stop you from using your sim card from your phone in your computer as it's only receiving and sending a data signal?
My only other option it seems is to upgrade my 2G iPhone to a 3G and get modem tethering. but they are scarce out here and expensive... -
contact Justin@XoticPC HERE. he will be able to give better advice as im in the uk.

Thanks. I messaged him. But today I went into a place here and they sell a 3.5G USB stick. ($100USD) comes with 2GB miniSD, it's a slick device. I was reading up on the iPhone 3G and the USB ones and the USB is much faster. So apparently all is not lost! haha, I could use my 3G sim card in the USB modem.
