According to Sager, the np9262 is shipped with the 64-bit operating system installed, along with a 32-bit recovery disk in case it’s required.

Since (I think) the processors are 64-bit, it would seem to make sense to use a 64-bit operating system. However, I understand that many applications won’t work on 64-bit OS’s, and that for many devices, especially older ones, no 64-bit drivers do, or ever will, exist.

So, what to do? I believe Sager would load the 32-bit system if I asked nicely, but, frankly, I’m not knowledgeable enough to know what is best. Does the 64-bit system yield that much better performance? Are there really that many applications/games and devices that are incompatible with 64-bit?

Any insight here would be appreciated.

    Thats silly.

Heres my understanding and experiance so far.
64bit can run all your 32bit applications, it just installs them into another directory set aside for 32bit applications (a folder called Program Files x86) I Mean, today I installed tons of 32bit applications/games and they are all working fine.

Im not entirely sure the complete benefits of 64bit, but i do know with 64bit you can run 4GB of ram or more (up to 16 i think) So its futureproofing.

Its only been 1 day, but so far no complaints really, other than my outgoing sound (sound recording) is a little funky, but there is a "hotfix" for that, that I am waiting to get in my email.

I Say go for the 64bit version, I see no reason not too.

p.s brian was my sales guy too, he was very nice.

I'm saying Sager charges more for thier notebooks, so don't buy a Sager from Sager. :)

And XP is faster for gaming than vista.

Vista 64 bit runs any 32 bit programs just fine through running a separate 32bit OS (X86) within the 64 bit environment.

I find very few compatability problems and even 32bit programs run a bit faster and in a more stable environment.

Dual boot! Just wipe the thing, set-up two partitions or drives, install Win XP, and reinstall Vista. After using Vista Ultimate 64, I prefer XP 64, that was a fast operating system. Downside is that XP 64 doesn't even have the support that Vista 64 is getting.

I'd say x64. It is much better than it's 32 counterpart. Vista is a better operating system. Sure, it is not as fast and light as XP, but in terms of how it's built to handle RAM and work it is a step forward.

When XP came-out everyone said it was slower than 98, but it was a better operating system. Eventually it came around. Now we're back at square one.

    Hi,

If you buy from Xoticpc you get both versions of Vista, they install the 64bit version but it says you get both versions! Are sager not the same?

Who knows, but Xotic is way better than Sager in terms of customer support.

Sager gives you both copies as well...

Alright dont get me wrong, I think Justin and Paladin are great, they always answer questions really quickly and proffesionaly so yes Xotic support and Paladins support is really valuable, especially on these forums and i greatly appreciate it.

But I mean Sagers support isnt bad either. Dont know why you guys put it down so much.

It is not that Sagers support is bad, sometimes there is a language barrier. :(

The main difference between the warranty provided by Xotic PC and PowerNotebooks versus Sager is we both add our own personal 24/7 Support to each Sager purchase. Sagers tech support is open from 7:30AM to 5:30 PM PST.

    RATS!!!!

Just found out I my printer manufacturer"s software won't work "fully" with 64-bit. Generic MS drivers might work, but I would lose some features probably.

Guess I'll go with XP for now.

What Printer? BEcuase I have a HP C3100 and I thought the same thing, I did a quick google search and there are some stand alone drivers that were released that microsoft doesnt put out and HP doesnt have on thier site that got my printer working perfectly.

I have the Kodak AIO 5300 which I'm quite fond of and want to keep if I can. I'll keep digging and see what turns up.

Do you recall where you found the HP drivers?
